OK Im SURE there is more info out there than I can read in a life time on this subject but......

Where the hell do I go and get info on what I am looking for when I dont know SQUAT. I dont have time to wade threw 25 pages to glean something on POI shift, or what material I should be looking at, or sound level etc.

So where do I go to start some research.

And yea yea I know its all on the forum SOMEWHERE

problem is its kinda like looking for the best scope out there without knowing what its for....

All I know is I want a 30 cal can.

TIA
Larry

Re: Suppressor Info

Wait. You want to know where to go to start from scratch, but also say you dont have time to wade through the volume of information on the subject.

Perhaps spend the time to know what you are using it for THEN learn what the product is for YOUR USE by going through what you need to in order to have a reasonable decision.

Re: Suppressor Info

Start scrolling through the topics in this forum, click on the ones that sound interesting. Many have links embedded and raise points you will have never considered. Wading through those "25 pages" can be extremely beneficial and when you have the occasion to post follow up questions you can be very specific in regard to what information you are looking for.

Truly a ton of info in here, just wade on in.

Re: Suppressor Info

If you don't want to dig through a bunch of posts and draw your own conclusions based on the opinions of others, you can always locate a class III dealer in your area and spend some time with him on the topic. That's what I did.

He talked to me about suppressors, answered my questions and made a sale to top it off. In short, they are all basically the same. They suppress the report of a firearm and in most cases, improve the accuracy of the weapon by a certain amount. You have different features that vary the price depending on what you need or want.

Pay a dealer for the suppressor and he will help you with the paperwork.

That's really all there is to it. No need to bang your head against a wall when picking apart who has the best quick attach or POI shift. Put one on your gun and tame the beast.

Try here as a start..

They are not all the same, not by a long shot. Just consider resulting accuracy (non repeatable POI shift) over a spectrum of different cans and you have some indication. Make no mistake about it, these days great cans are flying of the shelves, inventory is tight on the better cans and most dealers will sell you what they have on hand, especially if you don't know enough to know the difference.

You are wise to learn as much as you can. In a matter of weeks you can distill down the list pretty quickly.

You already got some good advice, namely "what will you be doing with it?" and "for what platform(s)?" and "what is your budget?"

A great suppressor is a once and you're done purchase. A great .30 can is one of the most useful of all. If you get it right you can move on to other equipment.

Attending a suppression event can be of great help as well.

For a taste of SH quality reporting, start here. Just remember, if at all possible, hear as many different cans as you can, you will be shocked at how quickly they shake out. Lowlight (this boards owner) has the ability to cut through and deliver very quantifiable results. If you watched the first video above, ACCURACY must go hand in hand with suppression. He fundamentally understands that (along with the idea that suppression values include more than just dB.)

now with that in mind, this a few short months after.

Good luck and ask questions!

Re: Suppressor Info

If you want to learn about suppressors you might find Lowlight's reviews of 30 caliber suppressors informative. You may be able to find them by searching for his topics in this forum. To really learn a lot, that will become a large task, so that might be a good start. Another thing you could do is look at sound test results on silencer forum- they did a test of some 30 caliber suppressors.

If you're looking to buy a suppressor, we have a suppressor group buy going for 30 caliber suppressors.

The RSTA is a brake or flash suppressor mounted over the barrel suppressor 10" OAL that mounts 2.55" rear of the muzzle crown for ~7.5" of length added.

The baffles are 718 inconel, the bore EDM cut, the suppressor is TIG welded. Weight is 25 ounces.
