My suppressor is due any day now. I was at the local range yesterday and asked the RO if they allowed suppressors. He said no. Said insurance wouldn't allow them.

What the heck?

Thats the most retarded thing I've ever heard. Anyone know why this might be? How can they present any sort of increased risk?

Re: Suppressors not allowed at public range?

Probably lying.

A silencer is classified as a 'firearm' by the ATF. I cannot imagine it being specifically addressed by an insurer.

That said, wtf did you ask for? Never ask for permission. Permission is implied by granting access. It is easier to get forgiveness than permission. So shoot the rifle with the can. If the RO comes over and says you cannot use it then you can take it off and go to another range.

Re: Suppressors not allowed at public range?

I wouldn't have asked shit. It's a legal piece of equipment that I have the right to posess. That guy didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground, so he played the safe card and just said no.

Should've told him to pound sand with his lies.

Re: Suppressors not allowed at public range?

just say its a .22LR if anyone is nosy enough to get in your business about it.

it seems like PLENTY of texas ranges dont seem to take issue with them since 1/3 of snipershide seems to be from texas AND runs suppressors.

Re: Suppressors not allowed at public range?

If this is Quail Creek they specifically post suppressors, NFA firearms, and FMJ ammo is not allowed.

Theres other places to shoot....go to them.

Re: Suppressors not allowed at public range?

Its not insurance, but his trying to manage public perception.

Because as you know all of us NFA owners are the most evil of all gun owners.

I have shot my can at Quail Creek after I politely asked the RO. He said they don't allow them, but "wink" I can't see what your doing shooting prone under the bench. He was pretty cool about it and even shot a few rounds through it, but I don't think I could be that lucky again at Quail Creek.

Re: Suppressors not allowed at public range?

It was Quail Creek. I've been shooting there since 1993.

Its the closest range to me except for the PD range, but I cant take my boys to the PD, or shoot unauthorized guns there.

What are the other DFW ranges that allow suppressors and FMJ?

Re: Suppressors not allowed at public range?

Alpine, Garland, Magnum are the few that come to mind off the top of the head.

I cant really blame quail creek too much...the guys there can be ass's but when 90% of your clients buy there new gun from Cabelas and drive straight to the range with no real idea how to work the thing...I'd be an ass too.

Just an FYI...Garland does not allow FMJ.

I have asked on multiple occasions and they tell me "they like to hear when they are being shot at" Whatever that means. Screw them and their range Nazis. Bayou Rifles is the best range in the Houston area IMO.

What about Elm Fork? </div></div>

Magnum is up by my house in Sanger, its only open on the weekends, pretty much anything goes, just don't mow down the trees, catch the place on fire with tracers, or shoot the cows, the rifle range goes out to 200 yards, send me a PM and I'll give you directions.

I pulled out my anemometer to check environmental conditions and the Range Officer/SuperHero had to break away from his non-stop bragging of how everyone comes from miles around to consult him on guns, to run screaming at me to put it away because there is a "vortex" in the wind caused by the tree line and I don't need that here. He tried to make me put back in the bag until I used some f-bombs and body gestures.
