Hey guys I'm interested in picking up a trainer 22LR for my back field. Problem is my neighbor. I'm looking for a subsonic trainer iot support the upcoming comp year. The thread's intent is to offer up suggestions for good accurate 22s that like subsonic gun food supressed. What is everyone's thoughts and experiences? Thanks in advance for your input.

Seems like if your intent is a trainer for competition, then a Vudoo would fit the bill. It would depend on your budget though.

CZ 455 is a good one that doesn't break the bank. I forget what their new model number is, but I think that one is supposed to be a little better then the 455.

I don't think I've shot a 22lr that doesn't work well suppressed.

I have a CZ452 and Tikka T1x, both I use suppressed and both shoot well with and without the suppressor.
I prefer the T1x for all the usual reasons, but biggest selling point for me was tbe factory threded 16" barrel. With my 4" suppressor it is shorter than my CZ452 American with factory length barrel.

A Cz455 shooting standard velocity shoots great, and the noise is quite small.

Sako quad is a nice rifle, with great accuracy. The quad range with its 6oz trigger makes shooting small targets extremely easy.

Both have the ability to swap calibers as well if needed.

Only shoot suppressed now and won't be going back any time soon. Suppressors make hunting much more enjoyable

I have a CZ452 and Tikka T1x, both I use suppressed and both shoot well with and without the suppressor.

I really dont want to drop more than a grand on the blaster itself. I already have glass for it (vortex pst gen1) and want to push this little guy far so I'm not opposed to using a poor man's horus on it w/ a 30 moa base. I can shoot out to 450yds out back and want to enjoy that freedom

99.9% of match ammo for 22lr is standard velocity, which is subsonic so you wont have any issues there.
I only shoot match ammo and mostly shoot suppressed, suppressor can get carbon build up and effect accuracy after 500 shots or so, but with a clean suppressor accuracy is the same as unsupressed.

Yep, speed of sound is about 343 m/s or 1125 ft/s so any ammo rated under this velocity is considered sub-sonic.

As mentioned ALL match ammo is subsonic. Look into Wolf or SK ammo as best bang for the buck.

The real problem lies in the fact the lead match ammo is EXTEMELY dirty. Plain stay away from it unless you have to when using a suppressor. I would recommend not using a suppressor unless you have to and when you do, to clean it after EVERY use. It will build up very fast and not only will it effect sound suppression, it will cause fliers.

If just plinking and practicing on large targets, I would recommend copper plated ammo to keep the suppressor clean. Use the lead match stuff for matches and precision work when a suppressor isn't needed.

Last, get the THunderbeast suppressor. THey make a take down one and they are literally the best. Others work good, but they are the best.

Savage Mark II, CZ 455/457, Tikka T1X are all production rifles offering threaded barrels. As others have noted most of the match and target ammo is already subsonic. Try a few and figure out which works best in your rifle. If you're waiting for a suppressor to get out of jail go ahead and shoot that rifle. It's not very loud without a can.

I have been shooting Rimfire PRC out to 300yds. for the last couple years with a CZ455 and a Surefire RyderS. I've shot Norma match, Sk std+, Eley tgt, Eley Contact and had plenty of accuracy...it's currently sub MOA under 100 and opens up to about 2MOA at 300....or my wind calls still suck

The Surefire has been a great can, just need to clean it regularly. It's a takedown can with a stainless steel core so it's easy to clean.

Nice thing with the 455 is you can upgrade as your addiction progresses......trust me, it's addicting

We're going to try it, anyway - no guarantees it will happen as anything other than dumb luck. With the planned ammo (Federal GMT), and typical conditions for my area this time of year, it's going to be 37.5-39.5 mils to make 600 yards. Doing the math on the actual total adjustment range on the Forge (using a 30MOA rail) and holdover available in the reticle, it's going to JUST be possible to do it without just holding out in space.

A GAP Tempest barreled action 6.5x47 lapua. Was in a J allen but just sold off this winter. So technically, I have a scoped barreled action as of now. Now worried tho. The blaster isnt the weak link nor necessarily is the training, but MORE dryfire and livefire locally (backyard) has become the overall strategy iot improve from last years AAR

I don't think you could go wrong with either the T1 or CZ, so if you want the rifle to match your centre fire the main thing I'd look for is stock/chassis availability.

I think both options should provide similar accuracy, but I personally prefer and would go for the T1x.
The bolt lift on the CZ can be (and for me) is a hinderance with regards to mounting the scope as low as possible, the safety is also better, action is smoother and I prefer the flexibility the T1 factory stock provides.

IMO for a new purchase rifle it Pretty much puts it in either :
1) a threaded CZ455 with a boyds tacticool or VPT stock or new CZ457 ( 60 degree bolt lift, better trigger, everything else pretty much same as 455 model) VPT or tactical stock
2) tikka Tx1 as a pretty good bet (no hands on experience yet, opinion based off using their CF guns and rimfire central reports, should be gtg)

I expressly left the savage models out as I've seen too many magazine and extraction issues with them, Accurate and less expensive, but frustrating getting issues ironed out. Anschutz makes a fine product for the squirrel shooter crowd, but out of budget and their mag design sucks for quick changes. Ruger RAR barrels are a lottery for accuracy that doesn't have good odds.

If used, I'd look for a DJ(Don Smith) prepped CZ in the classified PX , they show up here occasionally.

There will be other opinions chiming in soon.

If it makes you feel any better, I am a Tempest user as well (6CM/6.5SAUM), and love my 455.

Both the 455 and 457 have Manners stocks available, and CZ has even offered both in a trainer model with a Manners from the factory. MSRP was around $1k if I remember right.

People put all sorts of scopes on their rimfires, if you check out the other rimfire threads you will see many folk who put the same scope as they have on their main rifle. So quite a few $2000 scopes sitting on rimfire rifles.

I think they already have been no? It seems like I have seen a couple 455s in manners going for around $800-$900 Which is pretty awesome. If they drop more yet...$$$!!

My PRC gun is wearing a Vortex PST II 3-15x to keep the same formfactor as my 6.5CM that wears a PSTII 5-25x. Both are in KRG Bravo chassis to keep the same ergo's. Just recently went to a Fedderson barrel, I haven't sufficiently tested yet but I've got some 5 shot groups in the .2's at 50yds

Thats what Im switching to is a Vortex PST G2 for my soon to be trainer 22lr. I have a local shop calling me when they get a 457 pro varmint in stock! unless I find a better deal on a 455 in the near future looks like Im going to try out the new 457!

There are a couple nice 455 setups in the rimfire px right now. Guys getting out of cz and into vudoo.... I thought about it myself but I don't know how much Im really going to gain by spending another $1k, as this gun already shoots pretty damn tight.

I've got a full blown CZ 455 build. The action is about the only thing left CZ on it. It's got all the DIP goodies, yodave trigger kit, Fedderson barrel, in a KRG Bravo with a DIP 30MOA rail and Seekins Rings holding a PST II 3-15x on top.

I slowly built it over several years starting out with a 455 Varmint when they were first released and going from there. My needs changed as I went along and I changed the rifle to go along with them. Now I don't know that there is really anything left to do but find a good lot of ammo for the new barrel and keep shooting!

After all of the google-fu and youtube certifications I am at a total crossroads between two options... i currently am on a waitlist for a new CZ 457 Pro Varmint supressor ready 22lr OR an offer from a friend who has an owens armory 455 in a manners that has been worked over for $650. He upgraded to a vudoo barreled action that could set records. $575 for factory 457 OR $650 for a turn-key...

...an important addition is my comp blaster is a GaP Tempest (60 degree throw) in a T4A with a remi rh safety. The 457 is VERY close to this in bolt theow and foreward safety...with a similar design nature as a T4 in the stock. The 455 sits in a Manners already, has been accurized, and comes with bells and whistles...but has the longer throw, reverse safety...tough call. What would you guys do???
