I am new here and trying not to ask a question already asked(I tried a search) so I am sorry if this is an old topic. I have a 962 with IR filter currently but would like to get an LED light(Scout 620V) for durability / not needing spare bulbs but moving up to LED is pricey. What are the performance differences in the 2 with night vision? This a great forum and I am learning alot from it.

To answer simply...Using an IR filter blocks nearly 90% of all light to begin with. Using an IR filter is the most ineffective way to utilize IR energy. Kinda old school here.
With that said, for very short range/indoor use, an IR filter may work satisfactory, but for any distance down range an IR filter is not very effective.
If at all possible, save for a dedicated IR light of some sort.

Run time for the 620v is much greater than the incandescent w/IR filter. I believe its like 8 hours vs. 1 hour. You definitely get better/brighter light under nods w/ the 620v than the filtered light. We just went through testing on both and settled on the Surefire m952v. It's like $20 more than the m620v, but it allows the use of the pressure pad and tail cap switch simultaneously.
Bottom line, it's definitely worth the upgrade.

Forgot to add that for $300 you can upgrade the head on your m962 with the KM3 or KM4. That's basically the same light as the m952v.
