Hi my name is Markus and i have a question about the Surefire
Muzzle i just bought for my Ltr. Just read a post regarding the
Gap between the barrel and the muzzlebrake. Someone said
It should be a .250" gap, the brake and gun are at the gunsmith as we
speak and im a little nervous that he might have overlooked this fact..
If so what would be the result. Will it all go to hell?

Thx

Re: Surefire muzzle brake question

I did the same thing, I got mine installed and now looking at it it looks like it's not finished. Hopefully someone can chime in about it. On mine the treads of my rifle don't take up all of the threads on my Surefire Muzzle Break. I'm not sure if this is bad or good. Hopefully someone knows the answer.

PS: Chiller I did get the specs from Surefire and my smith did what they said too.

Re: Surefire muzzle brake question

Did you send a copy of the dimensional matrix with the gun or does the shop already have the SureFire print? If so, no sweat as that is included in the diagram. Contact your shop and ask.

Hopefully your shop is familiar with these type installs and especially the fact that the setup HAS to be indexed off of the bore and not the barrel O.D. LTRs and some other factory barrels are noted for crazy runout between the bore and O.D.

If the shop providing this service to you is unsure, have them contact SureFire. They can email the dimensional matrix and get you covered.

Re: Surefire muzzle brake question

Terry, My question would be about if the threads aren't all taken up by the barrel is it done wrong then?

Re: Surefire muzzle brake question

Pink,

I'm sorry but I can't get wrapped around your description.

Basically, the SureFire cans have an eccentric lock ring that falls behind the rear collar of your adapter when that ring is turned to lock the can down. Accordingly, you have to have a space between the back shoulder of your SF adapter and the original O.D. of the barrel. If that space is not there, the SF can will not be able to lock down.

On barrel diameters around 0.775" you will not see it because the cylindrical profile needed for the main part of the adapter just flows into the original barrel diameter. For barrels with larger diameters, the gap and shoulder will be visible with that gap being much more pronounced on the larger diameter contours.

If your explanation of threads running out means that it looks like the adapter is not screwed on all the way due to the gap between it and a newly machined shoulder, . . . it is supposed to be that way.

If this is not what you are describing. Start another thread and post a photo.

Best,
TC

Re: Surefire muzzle brake question

Never mind TC, I had 762 answer my question. The way I explained it is kind of awkward. He straightened me out. Thanks for trying to help.

For the OP. I searched my Emails, but couldn't find the specs that were emailed to me. If you call them they will email them to you and you can just email them to your smith. Hope that can help you a little too.

Re: Surefire muzzle brake question

it sounds like surefire has better installation prints than they did the last couple times i installed one. their tech service was no help either. they tried to tell me that since it was a 5/8-24 thread that meant the threaded portion was 5/8" long and there were 24 threads in that 5/8". this is not what i interpreted them to say over the phone, this is what they emailed me back as an answer to my question about the mounting dimensions. this was probably a couple years ago so hopefully it is better now.
