OK so I had chad tune up a barreled action for me in the group buy. THeres nothing wrong with that. I purchased a stock from a fellow hide member that was inlet for surgeon dbm
and picked up DBM kit from bugholes. now that I have my barreled action Im checking fit and since my barrel is a telephone pole I need to open up the barrel channel.. that doesnt scare me.
But in seating the action into the stock to see how much I need to open up the barrel channel. Ive noticed one that the pillars surgeon put in their kit are not the right size.. the diameter on the pillars is too big for the
stock holes that were cut.. and If I open up the holes it will leave me with very little stock left next to the hole. so I turned my own pillars which are the correct size cause surgeon has a sheet that says the pillars must be this big.. and dont alter them. But my rear action screw is too long and does not get tight ? can I shorten this screw? so my action will tighten up in the stock? I will have to pillar bed bottom metal bed the stock.. which ive never done...
but can I shorten the screw? or does it sound like Im doing something wrong?
I will post pics later, if its still unclear as to what I have explained.. thanks

Get your barrel channel where it needs to be first, then check the fit of the bottom metal and pillars. Make sure your pillars contact the action and bottom metal. Make sure your action and bottom metal in the mag well area do not have contact. if you need to shorten an action screw then make it shorter after everything is fitted to your liking. When fitting everything up make sure you check your mag fit too. Make sure your mag locks in and function test to make sure it will strip a round and feed without getting jammed up. you may need to adjust your pillar length and or mag catch length to get the mag to sit and feed correctly

I just did this with a manners stock inletted for the surgeon DBM. I reamed the pillar bore holes in the stock to .625 and used the pillars as supplied from surgeon. Not sure it matters if you use their pillars or not as long as you mill the ones you use to the dimensions called out by surgeon. I needed to bed the bottom metal also, no biggie.

The rear screw was like three threads long, maybe a little less. I needed to shorten this to get the bolt action to operate smoothly w/ out it interrfering with it. I took advice that was offered here and mounted the DBM to the action and confirmed proper function before bedding and installing to the stock.
