Surgeon trigger replacement

    I just f'd up the jewell trigger in my 591 due to pierced primer. My question is what trigger do I need if I go with either a rifle basix or a timney trigger because I see that they have bolt release on them and the 591 has its own bolt release. The jewell is fine for my BR guns but I don't want a finiky trigger in my field rifles. If there are any better triggers than the above mentioned then please enlighten me on them as I am in the market for another trigger. Thanks in advance.

    Take a look at these, I believe they will work in the Surgeon action. I have the Win 70 version and absolutely love the thing. I only use it for target purposes. With the heavier spring installed I have the second stage breaking at 2.5 lbs. Not sure what you mean by "finicky", I simply find the thing works without issues in my rifle.

I have met several people that wont run em anymore due to the fact it can leave you hanging whenyou need it.

    Jewel is not a "finicky" trigger. You blew a primer and smoked your trigger. That's not the trigger's fault. Send the trigger back to Jewel, have them fix or replace it. Meanwhile, fix your load.

    Well, this is my second trigger problem from jewell. The first was on a rifle in a case that was on the way to a shoot and I got in a 25MPH fender bender. Rear ended. Got to the range and the gun wouldnt fire. Took it to a smith and he fixed it. So...... IDK

    Well, I'm not trying to be a smartass, but triggers, jewels or any other brand, aren't made/built to withstand huge overpressures/blown primers or vehicle collisions at any speed.

    You can buy a Timney or one of those $350+ Extreme triggers, but I doubt they are going to be any better if you continue to subject them to such abuse.

    No offense taken. I guess the only reason I am looking elsewhere (I have 4 jewell triggers in other guns because I love em) is that for a long time I heard stories about how they would not hold up to field rifle use. I would say that can't be true, look how many people use em, then I read LL's rant on em saying they would't hold up.All of my guns are very well taken care of and my load is not hot at all. The gun has 1300 rds through it as of now, I would relook jewell but I think that the abuse they get is no abuse at all. I am looking for a VERY tough trigger if it is out there. Like I said, jewell has been fine for me and I will continue to use them, but maybe not in my field rifles.

    How will he "fix" his load if he has no trigger to test fire the rifle in question?

    The only people who say Jewel's aren't finicky are those who have never had one fail or never watched one fail under very standard conditions. I've seen a sear break in half in the middle of a match, no pierced primer, no load that needed to be fixed.

    They are great triggers, that I agree, but they can be finicky on tactical rifles in conditions that don't involve a bench and a chair to sit on.

    KY, i want a two stage trigger for a build i'm doing and haven't/will not get to play with either the huber or the CG trigger. if it were your money which would you run? You seem to be one of the guys with most of the accurate answers so i figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. thanks
