No kidding! I was under the impression that Surgeon was up there. I've got an LRP in 6.5 - was hoping to get a big boy for the occasional trip where you can really reach out heavy.

Don't get me wrong...surgeon makes a great action but it's not on an AI level nooooopppe

AI

90% at 1000 and in?
Any magnum is a waste.
Got a 6.5 or even a 308.
Far more practical.
Realistically the numbers are a bit higher than 90. I'm in S FL so I can't get to 1K plus as often as I'd like but with a build like this I'd definitely make the effort. I have an LRP and REPR in 6.5 - wanted to step it up :)

Surgeon today is not what it used to be

I'll take my AXMC in 338 LM any day of the week. It shoots lights out and provides me unparalleled ability to set up so it fits me perfectly. Phenomenal trigger out of the box. It works in any environment. I have shot it in the rain, snow...makes no difference.

The best part is when I get tired shooting the 338 LM; I switch barrel, bolt and magazine and I am shooting 6.5 Creedmor and I am shooting it from the same rifle and it takes less than 3 minutes.

Oh and I shoot LH

Preston is back. Big strides in the right direction, but I wouldn’t have them build my rifle, I’d use another smith.
Using one of their actions? No problem.
Seriously fellas, this is one of the most rugged dependable actions ever.

Man that's nice. Double Strike chassis, right? Curious - do you think 338 has that large of an advantage over 300 norma?

I'm not technically trained to decipher the data to judge what round is the best or has advantages over another . I shot a friends 338 off a bench on a duffel bag which I should of known not to do poor set up to say the lease with a light weight hunting rifle. Right before that I shot a 50 cal heavy rifle and wasn't very impressed because the weight of the rifle absorbed most of the recoil. So when they threw the 338 on the duffel bag figuring the recoil would be much less the the 50cal, pulled the trigger and thought I got kicked by a mule in the head.Stood up and was dazed for 20 seconds and a little scratch on my forehead from the scope actually felt like I took a good punch to the face. I was lucky the scope hit my head perfectly flat which I thought was the reason I wasn't cut open. So I had to have a 338 hair of the dog that bit me !! 🤣

Caliber and make of a rifle is all relative and one fact I do know is that I wouldn't want to stand down range with a dude who had a 16K rifle or an 1K rifle because I know both will hit center mass with equal enthusiasm. Fat wallets don't make you a marksmen but it does let you buy the best thats out there.

Back story on my friends 338 , he's retired Marine owns insurance company loaded to the gills . He shoots and hunts all over the world has a private jet and everything. So he's at this club on a hunt and a friend asked to use his rifle so my buddy sure and starts to explain the rifle to him about the kick so the guy goes off about he's shot everything under the sun you don't have to explain anything to me. So that night my buddy is at the bar before dinner when all the guys meet up his friend walks in with 17 stitches around his eye, the scope bit him but good. My buddy goes "I told you".

Ouch!! Pretty funny I told you so though lol

I have both - a TacOps Xray 51 on a Surgeon sa and an AXSA both in 6.5cm. If you want a custom rifle built the way you want it, go with the Surgeon. If you want a solid, accurate production rifle built around a chassis, with super easy barrel changes, go with the AI.
