I finally have enough money saved to upgrade the optics on my rifle. Its an old Weatherby Vanguard (Howa), chambered in .243, 24" barrel, and its 1 in 10 twist so I wont be going over 100gr. I will be handloading Hornady 100gr Interlocks at about 3000 fps. So here is my question. I have a very solid 0 moa mount on the gun, I also want to keep costs at a minimum and would like to keep the mount and just buy new rings if possible. I have heard good things about Burris Signature Zee rings. Would I have enough adjustment with these to 1000 yards comfortably? Should I buy the inserts at the same time to gain some elevation? Or would I be better of buying a 20 moa mount? Thanks.

My ballistic calc calls for 33 moa at 1000yards from a 200yard zero (.405 BC 3000fps).

That scope has an advertised 36 mils of elevation (124 moa), so if after zeroing you ended up close to the center of your adjustment, you'd have around 60 moa of up available. That should stretch you out to 1300yards.

The Zee rings are solid, I'd go without inserts unless your receiver isn't quite straight and needs more that 20 or 30moa to zero. You could always get a 20 moa base later if you find something is out of true, also

One of the many reasons I love the SS 3-15x, tons of adjustment for in a great overall 30mm tube package...

Thanks. I didnt think I would need more elevation with a .243. The farthest I have ever shot this gun is 400 yards at a big plate, so I definitely wont be going past 1300. Since I am already stretching my budget to get the SWFA, I didn't want to spend any more than necessary to mount it. Although there seem to be be some quality lower priced scopes out there, I had come down to the SWFA or the Vortex Viper pst. Mainly due to the warranties and customer service. The Vortex is very nice, but I think the SWFA will suit me better.

Valkyries,

I have a couple of 3-15 scopes. One on a 300 wm, and the other on a .308 gas gun. One has a 20 moa base and the other a 22 moa riser. I can go confirm, but I have around 25/26 mils left on both set ups. I think it is a very safe gamble to assume you will not need a 20 moa base. I would also look at SWFA rings as they may be a little less in price than the Burris and very similar. Lastly, I just picked up a pair of SS zero stop shims from TimK on this site, and I am very pleased. With that 20.00 addition you add one more nice feature to that SS closing the feature gap when compared to the Vortex. I didn't need the shims on my wm, but it was nice to have on my 18" .308. Enjoy!

Blessings,
