Anyone who has spent anytime reading these forums knows that SWFA is a Hide sponsor and has a somewhat loyal following here. The choice to register solely to bash said company was probably not a wise choice. Your better option would have been to register and ask members about the situation prior to launching that particular post.

That said... is waiting a month for a refund excessive? Absolutely!

However; Someone would have probably bought the SS 5-20 from you for the $1300, you would have been financially even and you would still have the SS 1-6 coming to you in the future. When? I have no clue - looks like no one really does, but you would have saved yourself a lot of grief.

Heads up for future reference.

Someone mentioned that SWFA hadn't lied about the release dates. I'm pretty sure you can still go to their website and it shows <span style="font-weight: bold">"Available this summer"</span>

I too am on the waiting list just as I was for the PST, do I care about the SWFA wait? Not really

The real issue is he received 1/2 of the items after paying ALL the money, returned the item he did have and has NONE of the money...

You're pissed. You vented. You should file a complaint with the BBB if you think it is necessary. One reason is because SWFA advertises their good standing with the BBB on their website. It's a two-way street - they need to earn their A+ rating. Also, the BBB might help resolve the issue. Don't go to the BBB if you beef is bs (again we only know your side of the story).

sorry, chief, but 4 months is just a beginning in this game..."patience is a virtue" yada, yada, yada...I just got put on a Vortex list that might get me a scope within the next year...CS rep wouldn't even give me an estimated date. For some reason, in this "precision" shooting game, items take a significant amount of time to come out. Probably due to the quality of the machining and other factors related to the items being high quality.

On another note, not to completely discount your experience, but SWFA has given me excellent CS on the two scopes I have purchased from them. They have also given me more than my fair share on trade-ins and purchases have gone smoothly.

I can't imagine how many transactions they complete on any given day, but having one get messed up here and there is absolutely expected. Your items just happened to be it.

When the Vortex pst's were impossible to get I had one on order with SWFA for almost a year, I did get it when they became available, (they are resellers they don't make scopes)I expected as much. Custom action group buy on here, almost 8 months, had to prepay to get the deal at that price. Go order barrels and stocks, you wait. Why so long to refund I don't know, they have always been top notch in my dealings with them.

They do make scopes, just not the Vortex Brand. SWFA bought the rights to the original 10x SS and then developed a few of their own that are manufactured for them in Japan.

I guess what I meant was they don't manufacture in this country, they contract it or private label it actually made overseas so the wait time can be much longer when you are running in batches to ship here. As opposed to NF or US optics that do make scopes here and can ship as they are completed in small batches or even a single scope. Point is what they have in texas is a warehouse and distribution facility.

I have done business with SWFA and have absolutely no complaints about there service or prices. The only legitimate complaint the OP has that I agree with is,they have his scope and after a month he has still not received his refund.
I agree that his impatience cost him a great deal but we are all wired differently so I wouldn't be quite so hard on him as several of the posters were

Try ordering a new pro camera when they are announced.
I'm in the photo biz...last year Nikon announced the D800, best value for dollar on a high end camera on the market, and at $3K not inexpensive.

Well, 8 months later we had 172 backorders and we got our first shipment...6 cameras.
It was nearly a year before all backorders were filled.
Some, like the OP bitched...most were just glad to get what has been rated as one of the best cameras in production.

So E Rock, take a life lesson, buy from a reputable company and never pre-order or order anything that's not in stock and ready to ship from any company.

Bingo, the OP stated he package the 5-20 up 5 months later because he was pissed off about the 1-6 deal and SWFA accepted the return. Sounds like they were trying. just my two cents here OP but you need a maxi pad.

My dealer ordered a scope from Schmidt Bender. Well we got the wrong one our fault, so he reordered the correct one and send back the other. Complete refund within a week. Certain scope companies do it right.

The wait for products sucks but not much you can do about it. The bad part of the deal is SWFA wants money as soon as you order a product. So the better be capable of getting you refund in the same time frame.

I have no idea if their was a date set for delivery for these scopes, don't care I wasn't involved.

In the gun industry it seems that its ok to miss deadlines by months and the customers should be ok with that. They just blame it on one of there suppliers. The company I own does not work that way. I have to answer for the delays they buy the products from me not my suppliers.

I'd be pretty fuckin pissed too about not having $1600 returned to my account after a month or so after returning said product!!!

I pitched a fit at Best Buy over an Xbox 360 purchase for which I was charged twice for because their system screwed up after I swiped my card the first time, then wouldn't immediatly refund my $$$ for 5 business days... then another 5 business days from my bank. That fuck up from them drained my checking account, and even put me in the negative with NSF fees (I'm not rich! lol)

Not everybody on this site and in this sport can throw around money on gun stuff like its going out of style!
Being out of $1600 for around a month, AND being dicked around by the people who posessed my $1600... Would piss me off more than just hopping on a forum and bad mouthing them!!!

That said... SWFA has never treated me wrong in my transactions, and I usually use their site as a "ruler" to judge prices before making my final decision on an optic purchase.

A lot of people here have had excellent service from SWFA (count me among them).
We have an OP who specifically joined and started a thread to bitch...not to ask others opinions or get some ideas how to get quicker service...nope, just to bitch.
I of course could be wrong (though I try to wrong no more than once a year LOL), but I wonder about his attitude when he was dealing with SWFA.
Sometimes you gotta hear both sides of the story.

- Write with a respectful tone, as if you are voicing your complaint to a good friend of your father or your mother in-law.
- Write so that you clearly communicate what your expectations were and how the company failed to meet them. Specifically discuss any technical or contractual shortcomings with the product or process.
- Explain why you feel you been wronged and are owed special accommodation.
- Provide a recommendation for the company to resolve your issue and improve the process.

Had you employed these tactics I suspect more members on this forum would have sympathized with you. I have had issues with some of my expensive shooting gear too, but I have always had a favorable outcome by using the above approach.

And actually send them a physical letter with the above info... On some fancy paper with a professional looking letterhead... And make sure you put the "Lawyer" word in there someplace. lol

I've had the same thing happen more than once. It's not SWFA you should be pissed at. It's the credit card company. I would be willing to bet money they refunded your card right away, it takes quite awhile to go back on the card. If it was a debit card it would take like two days.

They didn't require money upfront on this deal. Except on the 10,000 likes package guys who got the 5-20 shipped right away, SWFA billed the full amount for the two
scopes.

So up until OP sent 5-20 back he was only out up to 300 for the 1-6 he was waiting for. SWFA retails the 5-20 scope for 1,299.95 on their site. That SS 5-20 gets pretty good reviews. If the new SS 1-6 HD is what I think it's going to be you could put a NF logo on it and they would sell for 1500+ & I would bet on that.

I'm waiting for my SS 1-6, I ordered it less than 1 hour after the deal for 1-6 went live. I haven't complained much about the wait but it does suck we don't have them yet.

Too bad OP doesn't have his refund yet but just had to be patient and he'd have 2500 worth in scopes for just $1,586. By being impatient OP creates a problem for himself and SWFA. Perhaps better communication from SWFA in the first place would have helped OP to be patient and wait it out for a outstanding deal that didn't go as smooth as hoped.

I get the aggravation of the OP - 20 days (business or calendar) it too long to process a card charge reversal, IMO. I also get your frustration with the length of time required to fulfill your original order.

But instead of performing a seagull maneuver (flying in, shitting all over everything, and then leaving), maybe you should <span style="font-style: italic">pick up a phone and call SWFA</span>. Sometimes it takes more than one phone call, and sometimes you might have to ask for someone further up the food chain. If that doesn't work, then call your credit card company. This course of action will yield better results than whining on a forum.

And if this is the worst experience you've ever had dealing with a vendor, then I am extremely jealous of your sheltered life.

I don't know the OP, but what I read at of this is.

SWFA had a deal on the 5x20 + 1-6
SWFA said 1-6 will be ready SUMMER 2012

OP paid full money up front
Summer came and went and OP wants his money back, SWFA broke the terms of the deal.
SWFA received the 5x20 and it has been 20+ days and the OP has not got his money.

Maybe he wanted two scopes to go hunting with his son...hunting seasons here and he needs his money back to get two scopes ASAP.

I have nothing against SWFA. But all the you gotta wait for stuff post are not in line with his grief

Ordered one of their Sightron Scopes for a 22 and a hunting rifle Late at night, and I'll be damned if UPS didn't wake me up the next day with my scopes. That pretty damn good. My brother had same experience.

Uh lets see We ordered 108 SS 10X40's in 2003 to go to war on M14 DMR's I was building for the 42d Army NY ARNG They delivered all the scopes under a tight delivery schedule(we had 6 weeks to build 100 rifles and train 100 DMR shooters. On the first day of the range with the new systems one of the scopes had a problem( the cross hairs turned about 10 degrees) If have ever been around any precision shooters let alone snipers(we had some from the recon element) everybody started having "issues" with the new scopes. I contacted SWFA who immediately put me in touch with their rep. he had me package ALL the scopes and provide the a detail of the problems with ones that had issues. This was Tuesday(he provided his UPS #) I asked how long to get replacements. He informed me that they had a new lot and it was being shipped. On THAT THURSDAY I picked up 108 new SS 10X40's from the Ft Drum loading dock. They tested the scopes 1 had a internal set ring where the epoxy used to lock it had not set correctly. They found no other issues in the other scopes, even the ones the snipers had problems with (head space and timing) The bottom line SWFA went 110% to get the job done.

The scopes and rifles went to Iraq performed 100% the Soldiers loved them.

I have ordered two illuminated models from SWFA during the $500 off. Now also have two nonilluminated versions and not one was charged before SWFA shipped them out.

Again they only charge the full price on the 5-20 (if it has been shipped out) then charge 300 for the 1-6 (if it has been shipped out).

I also got in on the "DEAL" back in June or so. Unlike you I didnt even get the 5-20. Instead they said it was backordered and would be here soon. Patiently I waited and waited a few months. This was for the 5-20 not the 1-6. I knew the 1-6 would be a long wait and was ok with that but I expected the 5-20 sooner like in maybe a month? But I contacted them several times and they usually said it would be just a bit longer. Finally in October I asked if they would offer me a deal on something else not to cancel the order and they said no. So at that point I canceled the order completely at the end of OCT. Luckily I was not charged for anything so no worries there.

I even called once and talked to someone to voice my displeasure with not receiving the 5-20 and his attitude was like "whatever". I posted something on Opticstalk and was threatened by the moderators to talk about something other than compliants or else my account would be closed.

I instead placed an order for a Bushnell HDMR from Scott at Liberty Optics and it arrived 3 days later. As always Scott came though and I will only buy from him in the future.

I hope some of you never order a custom rifle. You would shit when a 6 months build turns into a year because of things out of you're control like LE/MIL contracts. Tuck your cooter lips back in your manties and simmer down tater tot.

Here's what I don't get, why didn't the OP just keep waiting for the 1-6... He said himself that he had the 5-20 for 4 months (May to September, not exactly winter months) & never used it, so what the hell does he care how long it takes?!

I realize he can do whatever the hell he wants, I'm just sayin'...
