Switching from Hornady to Lapua brass 6.5CM

My current load with H brass is 41.6 of IMR 4451 and it shoots well. I picked up 200 pieces of Lapua brass and I know it's about 2.Xg less capacity. Has anyone that made the switch found out about how much less power it takes to get a comparable load with switching?

I know I have to test but I'd rather get it done as quick as possible to shoot. I'm thinking .5 - .8 less and start the test there. What do you think?

I actually used more powder from my Hornady load. ?

I would drop .4 or so but run your test way over the Hornady Brass

Thanks. I was testing a higher node at 42.2 and going higher when I had some brass issues. So the last couple times out I just shot a couple hundred at a load I know shoots well it’s the low node for sure though.

In my .308 loads, I was using .3 gn less in Lapua Brass to get the same velocity.

Appreciate the input. Tomorrow or Sunday I'll test 41.1/41.4/41.7/42.0/42.3/42.6 and post he results. I had decent results with H brass at 42.2 and was going to test seating depth when I ran into issues. I found the low(ish) load at 41.6 ~2650 pretty quick and it worked well so I kind of just stayed there since the range only goes to 875.

I'm in the process of developing a load and started at .02 off the lands; with a ladder from 41-42.5 at .3 increments and didn't have much luck at all. I then shot some factory hornady ammo and they were half MOA. Only mention as I'm fairly certain I'd have crossed the factory load in my spread but the seating depth certainly wasn't happy.

Hitting the range tomorrow as well but backed down to factory length with the same ladder.

I decided to start using the 8lbs of H4350 I had since I was running out of IMR 4451. Pretty quick to find the results considering I switched Brass, primer, and powder. I started at 41.1 and went up +.3 Looks like the load is between 41.1 and 41.4. I pulled the 4th shot on the second group so that's me and not the load. 41.4 was an avg of 2776 fps.

Nice group. Interestingly, I think the ideal node for me (per last weekends range trip) is going to be at 41.1 as well; but with Hornady brass at the moment.

How do you like the Lapua 6.5 brass? I had some for 308 but haven't made the jump for 6.5 yet.

The SD was much lower out of the box vs the Hornady. It's should work well.
