I have a Remington 700SPS Tactical in .308 and was wanting to upgrade the Hogue OM stock to a B&C Medalist A2. Do I need to take it to a gunsmith or is it a pretty simple task? What tools will be needed? Whats up with the bedding? My search-fu might be weak but I have to say this site is quite difficult to search. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Welcome to the site.

This search engine is better than the site's search function:

I believe the answer to your question is yes. I don't have any experience with the B&C Medalist A2 stock. As long as the stock is inletted for a Rem 700 short action you will be fine. This is a simple thing to do. A couple bolts in the bottom to remove the stock and replace the new one. As far as bedding, I will let more experienced people comment on that. Use the above mentioned search and you will find quite a bit of info on bedding.

Good luck! This site has a ton of info if you are willing to search and read a lot.

Re: Switching stocks on Remington 700SPS

the B&C stock has a bedding block meaning you dont need to skim bed or anything. Tools you will need are:

Torque wrench calibrated in INCH pounds
Allen key bit that fits the action screws

Look at the bottom of your rifle and the screws that are behind the trigger and infront of the floor plate are your action screws. Take those out, take your barreled action out and put it in your new Bell and Carlson stock, tighten them back down to the manufacturers recommended torque values. Mount everything back up and go shoot. its easy to do no need to send it to a smith

Re: Switching stocks on Remington 700SPS

So I ordered my B&C A2 stock and they said about 6 to 8 weeks until I recieve it. I forgot to ask the guy on the phone when I ordered the stock if me having the heavy barrel will effect installation. Anybody have info on this?
