I was out at the range today to work on video for an upcoming article and boy can I pick days to try to get something done. There were steady 20 mph winds left to right with 30 mph gusts thrown in for fun and while the day wasn't as successful as I wanted it to be I did manage to figure out a few things. I've been working with this TAB sling a little bit in preparation for the article and used it to success at a few stages during a recent PRS match and so far I can say that it is a very effective and versatile sling, I like it a lot. I had a target set up at 300 yards and the plan was to shoot with my Armageddon Gear sling using the shooters loop and then do some work off the tripod and a set of trekking poles using my Bergara HMR.

Slinging up in 20+mph winds was a loser bet in the kneeling and not much better in the sitting, I was simply getting blown around too much with a full value wind, I scored one hit out of six.

Using the TAB gear sling via the tether method was surprisingly super stable. I ended up not running it under the tripod leg to gain leverage, probably because I was cold and couldn't feel my face, but it worked out fine anyway. I rolled my hips back into a double kneeling and the position was good and tight. I went three for three and shot a group that was about 2". From there I broke out a set of trekking poles and set up using the Wojcik method where the sling runs around my strong side arm and to the front of the gun. This was my first time really employing this method to send rounds down range and the stability was pretty good, I dropped one shot off the right edge due to my own mistake but two shots on steel were within 4".

I've got a picture of the target below and three of the shots just right of center are from the tripod, one of the shots within that 3 shot cluster is from the trekking poles and the other to the left of the main group is also from shooting off the trekking poles. That little guy at the bottom was the only hit when I tried shooting using the shooter's loop. All in all given the conditions today I'm happy with how it worked out because any range time is a good time.

I'm glad you like the sling Trigger Monkey. I think the more you use it and become more familiar with the features the more you'll find that it is a help in just about any position you find yourself in.

Nice post. I'm new to the sport so I always appreciate pics and info on using your equipment. I see you are at Peacemaker. I enjoyed shooting in one of their long range challenge matches.

Thanks Tony, I'm definitely beginning to appreciate the sling the more I use it.

heh, I'm very fortunate to have Peacemaker so close to me and the crew up there has been great in letting me use the facilities to do some articles.

I was able to get out yesterday and use the sling some more as the last time I was out I simply wasn't able to do what I needed to get done. I had a few other slings with me but I ended up using the TAB Gear sling the most to demonstrate shooting in different positions and off a tripod. While I was working on the article and researching the different slings and techniques it was interesting but not all that surprising to me that unless there are certain conditions that require it, the shooter's loop has become more or less antiquated. I think with some of the more modern slings out there you can get just as stable, faster, and be more mobile without the need to get into that traditional sling supported position. I personally experienced this using the Armageddon Gear sling which does have a shooter's loop side by side with the TAB and one video it took noticeably longer to get into the shooter's loop and get on target than it did with the Pinnacle sling.

Now here's my one gripe and this has nothing to do with TAB but when I try to use the sling with my post 2014 AX AICS it's super uncomfortable to try to use the sling to pull tension over my back in a patrol carry fashion. I don't have this issue when I use the sling with my HMR, SPR, 10/22 in a Titan Stock, or my Pre-2014 AX AICS, just the new one. It has more to do with the position of the flush cup and my body then anything else but it is what it is, it's just a word to the wise that not every sling is going to work out the same way for every body.

Just received mine from Mile High yesterday. Can’t wait to try it out! Seems very easy to adjust especially with the adjustment oriented towards the front. Going to break it in this week on a hunting trip, on a shotgun no less.
