First, don't buy direct, their pricing is high from their site. There are many vendors that sell TT stuff for way less.

Secondly, what are you needing? A frame ruck to pack weight? A ruck to just throw all your shit in?

Anything Tactical Tailor makes is overbuilt. Had a lot of their gear when I was up that way. Still have one of his MALICE Packs, assorted mag pouches, admin pouches, etc. It's all good gear and worth the money.

Tactical tailor packs are awesome, cant recommend them enough if your looking for a true bomb proof pack over frame ruck and needs to be jump rated. I dont know your humping background but if your your screen name 375 means 3rd Batt then I need say no more.

I use TT, they're local for me. They'd cater to us when I was in the army. They do all sorts of stuff and custom stuff not advertised. They are the real deal. No junk shit. I have two packs from them, not the one you show but a 3 day pack and a larger assault pack. What can I say? Never left wanting. They'll hold those large Source bladders in a water resistant pouch so your back and shit in the ruck doesn't get soaked from a leak or condensation. Just built solid, and they carry the weight in a way that's about as comfortable as you can.

Hard to say on price, I usually buy from their store or get it used at surplus.

They're my go-go for gear. They also have more than advertised too, IME. They're constantly making things. I like their clearance bin, never know what you'll find in it. Custom stuff nobody picked up, one off items, you name it.

I'm trying to find a pack that will be cross functional. One I can log gear around in but also one I can use at Mammoth Challenge. I hear people using stuff like the Osprey but I dont see any pics or descriptions of how rifles were carried. I dont like Eberlestock. Ive used them hunting. Not comfortable.

Tactical tailor has always catered to the 1st sfg , 2/75 and tenet units. My buddy jumped into iraq with the 173rd and they all had TT vests and gear.

Their shit is first rate. I have a 3 day bag I have used for the last 20 years and it looks brand new. Have a few other bags and pouches and they are first rate.

I would recommend looking for something used. Way cheaper and as long as it's not thrashed, will last a lifetime.

But, the hunting specific packs will be nicer if u have to hump it. Much better suspension system with mystery ranch, exo and kirifu.

I have one TT pack but a whole host of other TT kit, Top top shelf indeed. I am not sure Nisqually pack is what you seek, need more info.

Osprey also makes top shelf packs, they carry average weight extremely well. What you are looking for to tote a rifle is a beaver tail or wand/ski pocket. The category is mountaineering and ski packs that have a pocket that will carry alpine touring/mountaineering skis. Mountain hunters in Alaska used them for decades before newly arrive packs design called rifle pocket. I believe Mutant series if you want to check out Osprey.

I agree withj Eblerstock, great for a range tote bag or predator hunting but they lack severely for a true hunting pack not that it cant be used.

@regnar375 what are you looking to do with this pack? If it's general hiking and hobby things then I think there are better packs out there.

If you are carrying a weapon for a long period of time over rough terrain you are going to want a better way of carrying the weapon than in the top lid. Look at eberlestock or mystery ranch depending out your budget. Tactial tailor is ok but think of it as a generalist pack (jack of all trades master of none). Depending on how much you're carrying vorn may be worth looking into.

Regarding what @45.308 said above about mammoth form what I've seen some people will put them in the lids, others will lash them to the sides and rest the buttstock in a water bottle pocket.

A ski pocket is a wide pocket near the bottom of the pack on the outside to slide the tail ends of skis into, then lash them to the top of the pack. AT skis are larger and heavy like a rifle. Gun pockets on todays hunting packs are almost an identical copy.

A beaver tail is a split in the pack to carry large oversized items like an avalanche shovel or a grain scoop. The butt of a rifle will fit reel nice, snug up the straps and its a semi eblerstock but of course with a lot of the rifle sticking up and not next to the back. Its been used for decades by hunters to tote rifles, meat, wood, a whole host of items.

When I was at Mammoth years ago, lots of Eblerstock in use and lashing to a pack (see above) cant say now.

Thanks. no interest in a eberlestock. got a chance to use one and I have to agree, they are not comfortable (gunslinger). used it for a 5 mile hike with about 70 pounds.

Just my opinion, I have owned and used many different types of packs including the malice pack, various mystery ranch, kifaru, eberlestock, old Alice, Molle ruck etc. The tactical tailor was extremely well built and the company is very good to deal with, however i found that i much prefer a "taller" skinnier pack as opposed to the wide Alice/Malice style. I prefer the frame on the Kifaru to all the others as it is the only one that gives me the proper amount of lift under heavy loads. I have hauled a lot of heavy loads with the standard alice and molle offerings, i just find the more my body breaks down the more i appreciate a well fitted frame and pack system. My suggestion would be to see if you can find anyone near you who has a pack or two and try them out. feel free to message me with any other specific questions i have spent waaaaaay to much money chasing the perfect pack for me.

Ive been carrying internal frame packs since leaving the mil - Arcteryx, Gregory, some LBT offerings, an Eberlestock.

Lately Ive been intriqued by frame packs and the old Alice calls to me for some reason.

I like the idea of the frame sitting the pack weight properly on the hips and thinking there is a lot of good in frame packs.

Than I remember what an assache it was to get anything out of the Alice, such an inconvenience I often just went without whatever I wanted.

Like OP never found Eberlestock to fit well (GSII) though it is great rifle luggage for hand carry.

The new mystery ranch pintler is an awesome pack. Great design, easy access, light and can pack out over 100lbs of meat on top of your hunting gear.
