Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

Got mine for my MKII non-e today. Going to have to remove a little material forward of the receiver so it'll sit flush, but otherwise everything appears ok and the stockys metal pieces fit perfect. Waiting on the screw set backordered from them, but the stock work for now missing the rear trigger guard screw however.

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

^^Looks great.

Got mine yesterday--wow slow shipping for $13. Love the ergos. The inletting is crap. At least it's on the loose side so I can clean it up with acraglass. This is the first and will definitely be the last Boyd's product I ever buy. Absolutely terrible quality.

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

Decided to stop by BOYDs site just for a look again and it seems they couldn't get rid of all the green and tan savage stocks and they are back down to $79. decided to snag a tan one while I could. So if anyone is kicking yourself( I know I did) for not jumping on it a couple week ago nows the time!!

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

I ordered a Black Savage and a Green 10/22. They sent me a Black Savage and a Green Savage. I am keeping the green and sending back the black Savage. They gave me an RMA number and will refund my cash but I am out of luck on the 10/22. If anyone is interested in the Black Savage, pm me before Saturday 29th AM when I am going to the UPS store.

What did you torque the screws to? My action was a little tight so I opened up the inlet a small amount and it seemed to help. I guess when the action is torqued into the stock it squeezes the reciever, odd at only 30in/lb, but it is a .22 I suppose.

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

I took my ruger out yesterday and I have to say this stock fits me perfect. I decided to customize it my way with a little texturing and duracote, check her out now:

I just spread on a very thin coat of bedding compound and used a tongue deppressor to texture, actually takes some practice. I have lots of duracote left so anyone needs theirs painted a solid color I could do theirs with texturing for $75 including return shipping.

Gotta love GAP digital camo

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

I got out to shoot mine yesterday and it shoots great. I don't think that I 'need' the cheek rest that i've bought, but I may install it anyway as I didn't have quite as good alignment as I wanted, need a tiny bit higher on the stock to line up correctly on that 50mm obj scope I have.

The rifle shot about as well as it ever has at 50 until I put some eley black box through it. Now I know why it costs $13/box!! I think that if the wind was a little less wacky, and if I was driving the rifle better, I could have been punching 1/4" groups pretty easily. As it stands (I haven't measured just yet) it looks like they are all at or under 1/2".

The fit of the stock is great, I love it. I need to get out and shoot it from the prone now.

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

Anyone have part numbers for Savage bottom metal, screws and trigger guard?

I tried calling Savage today but the parts guy couldn't look it up. I told him I needed bottom metal, trigger guard and screws for a TR. He insisted I give him a serial number for my MarkII, then told me it didn't have a trigger guard (no shit). I told him I was putting it in an aftermarket stock, he replied "Well that's not going to work" then hung up.

I can't find any part numbers on Savage's site.

Thanks.

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

he hung up on you? dude, call back and get someone higher up and report that stuff. thats no way to treat a customer. either in this thread or the other tacticool thread someone posted all the parts numbers for what you seek.

seriously, call and report that guy

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

Yeah, that's definately f'd up, and the guy needs to have some action done to correct his thinking. Call back and get someone else. When I called I told them that I bought a Boyds Tacticool stock that is a replica of the TR stock, and asked what I needed and the gal I spoke with got me exactly what I needed.

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

jrsd, check my post from 5/24/10. I recieved all the proper pieces but the bottom metal. I didn't feel like calling them a third time so I just fabricated one myself. Just call them back and tell them that you purchased the Boyds Tacticool stock which is the same as their TR stock. They will always ask for serial number due the differences between various models. If you get lucky, they'll ship out the TR parts. My rifle had the plastic stock as well.

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

yep all my calls to savage were totally professional. i have been in customer service most of my life and i will not tolerate BS like that from anyone or anyplace.

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

I called them during lunch and ran out of time to call them back. I'll try them again tomorrow.

I'm assuming it was a new guy. I initially asked for parts for a MarkII TR but he couldn't look them up without a serial number. He kept putting me on hold, I assumed he was asking someone else for help.

BadShot308, I saw your post with the part numbers and was just looking for the missing bottom metal part number. Thanks

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

I have my original TR stock painted GAP Krylon with a Karsten Cheekpiece if any is interested. I replaced it with a Boyds b/c I didn't care for the cheekpiece with this particular rifle as I couldnt get the bolt out with the cheekpiece installed. (Karsten warned me, I didnt listen) The stock would work great with a stock pack over the holes or you can use the cheekpiece if you would like it. I was going to keep it as a back up but if someone if interested, pm me.(sorry to sidetrack the thread)

Re: Tacticool back at boyds and shipping May 11th

Usually dont post pics of my rifles but these are really cool,

GAP camo style Boyds stock
ER Shaw barrel cut and threaded 1/2x28 @ 16"
RT 20 moa base
Falcon 4-14 mil/mil
TPS aluminum low rings (best rings for this setup I think)
Hearing Protection LLC Checkmate quick detach Suppressor.
Tuned firing pin to punch .015" over stock
Tuned factory trigger to break @ 3 lbs. (might go lighter)
Installed trigger overtravel

Didnt think the barrel would shoot THAT good... but with SK standard plus I was grouping about .2 mils at a lased 87 yards. I must have gotten a fluke barrel because it is dead nuts. Im holding my breath but im thinking it might be able to do sub MOA at a hundred. Also had the meter out and the Checkmate averaged 114.5 with the SK ammo. Pretty mousy
