So today I picked up a savage mark II, and I'm about to order the Boyd's tacticool stock for it. I know I need to buy the new bottom metal for the stock to work, is that it? Also Boyds offers the DIy bedding kit, how difficult is that to do? I have never bedded an action before, is it worth getting it and doing it, or should I just put it off? And lastly can anyone offer some budget glass for it? I have a scop to use now, but it's questionable about holding a zero if it gets bumped with any force. I have used it before on a .308 and it held zero during recoil, but after a bump from getting back in the truck it was a foot off at 100 yards.

It depends on your budget and what you want out of the scope. For between $400 and $600 you could get a nice Vortex or SWFA. The glass is clear and they hold up well to shock. As for the bedding, it can be done yourself, but ask around and see if a friend has done it before. He can then help you through the process (and you will need help) in exchange for a couple of beers afterwords.

You may need the other action screws as well. I had to change mine when I swapped the stock.

SWFA SS 10 is great for the 22. TONS of elevation. Weaver 3.5-10 is mil/mil and is what is sitting on mine right now. Nikon buckmaster mil dot is worth a look too.
+1 on the vortex too if you are looking to spend more than the ones I mentioned above.

I was looking at the Osprey brand scopes. They are listed on opticsplanet and I know a guy that has one on a .300 winmag and it holds up great. They are fairly cheap and I'm on a tight budget but can save up for a little while and be ok. But I am in the market for a 20 MOA rail for it though, it looks more and more like it will be needed. I plan to walk my way out to 300 yards with it, currently I haven't shot anything over 100 with a .22 but plan to join the club asap.
Is it common to need the different action screws? I checked again on the Boyd's web page and didn't see that they were listed as needed.
