Change in plans...one of those will go on the 700P - .308 - built by Jon at Area 419, and the Mark 4 will move onto the EBR. The Gen 2 Razor is off the table at $2400+. There are some demo NF NXS 5.5-22X56 Zero stop MOAR C434 at $1750. Vortex Razor HD 5-20X50 EBR-2B 52005 at $1700 with a 14% discount which works out real swell for the financial folder. I would gladly scoop one up from the PX here but I don't think anyone is going to let me make payments so that's a no go. :( The vortex reticle looks to be more user friendly for wind holds. Most of my time is on the archaic service rifle platform, so I always dial in my wind as needed but the concept looks interesting and something I would like to learn to apply. Mostly target shooting with 1K yds certainly on the table and I think these optics would get the job done to that range. The original budget was much lower but I figure a little more-and those prices are the best I can do-and I will get a scope that will be able to take me as far as I would want to go. A rather broad question perhaps, even reading as much as I could find on these 2 scopes, but I would appreciate any personal testimony to help me make an informed decision. Good luck and good shooting!

Ive been behind both. I like them both. Pretty sure the nightforce youre looking at is 2nd focal. If youre going to be using holdovers at different magnification levels its a pretty easy vote for vortex. Another consideration id have personally is regarding selling the scope down the road. Generally speaking its harder to move 2nd focal scopes on this site. If none of that is a factor, toss up. You'll like both.

Gen 2 vortexes go regularly for 1800 on here. Nice thing is if it is busted when it arrives don't panic ship it to vortex and they will send you a brand new one usually with a hat and stickers thanking you for choosing vortex best optics cs...ever...period.

My Brother runs NF and I run Vortex...my younger Brother runs Vortex and his son/my Nephew runs Night Force.

Both are good/excellent choices. I think it comes down to reticles. Vortex gives more bang for the buck in my opinion. I like Vortex's reticle choices better but like NF's glass a little better but it costs a bit more respectively.

You should be able to find a new Gen 1 razor (5-20) for less than $1700. In fact you can get a new or slightly used gen 2 razor (4.5-27) for ~$1800-$1900 either here on the PX or from a Hide vendor.

No experience with NF but I own a few vortex products including Razors and have nothing but good to say about them.

If you go vortex give Scott at Liberty Optics a call and mention the forum. It'll be worth it.

Get the Gen 2! I just bought one last month and the Gen 1 is up for sale. Next year when i have some extra cash I will get the 4-27 razor. The gen 2 really blow the gen 1 out if the water. Besides 18x is more than enough to get you out to 1k yards. In fact i dial down my gen 1 to 15...

We sell both brands, and yes, Scott is a great guy as well. My experience is that the Razor HD-E in 1-6x is a great quality scope. We have good luck with PST Gen2. Not so much with higher mag. Vortex. On the other hand, NF is selling hot, and built to throw at a moving train. Vortex has a great warranty, but with NF, you don't use the warranty. There is no question that I would opt for an ATACR in any magnification. the 1-8x and the 7-35x is hard to keep on the shelves this year. Last year, there was a waiting line for the Razor AMG. Now, I have several as trades, and they are hard to sell, and the price is slipping. If you like the reticle on the Razor, you should buy it. If you get a lemon, the warranty service is great and you will get a new one.

I have a gen 1 Razor and like it a lot, have not played with the gen 2 Razor or Nightforce much but I'm sure they are both great scopes, Gen 2 Razor is heavy, Mile High has the gen 1 Razor for $1700.00 with a free Spuhr mount, great deal.
