Talk to me about this possible build… can I do it myself and will it shoot worth a shit?

New Vision Chassis, Impact 737r action with a prefit barrel.

Never done anything more complete than change a barrel in an AI and LMT.

Thinking this gets me close to an ATXC with more flexibility of parts and cheaper in the long run.

Talk me out of it if I’m doing something stupid and just need to buy a used AIAT.

Will it be accurate? I guess I just need to give it a try.

Thanks guys!
Depends on the barrel job mostly. What kind of accuracy do you expect or is sufficient and how many thousands more would you pay for someone to guarantee it using the same base components?

It's easy once you do it. I just put the barrel in a barrel vise, put some anti seize on the barrel threads and screw a shouldered barrel on with an action wrench. Get go/no gauges and a barrel nut wrench for barrel nut style barrels. Only takes a few minutes longer with a barrel nut.

Here's a barrel nut .223 barrel screwed on a Zermatt action that's pretty accurate. Had similar results with other do it yourself combos.

Not really. You can if you want but I have never put anti seize on any of my barrels. I just put a little grease on the threads so there is no galling. It's easier to clean up than anti seize and most have it on hand already.
Fine, anti-seize or grease used to prevent seizing…oh, that would function as…anti-seize in this application.

Cheers.

Its easy.

So easy I can do it with very good results.

I have bought prefits from places like Altus, several proofs, Keystone accuracy, PVA, and a couple others that shoot really well for me.
They shoot as well with easy load development as my barrels turned by smiths with action in hand. 🤷‍♂️

Do It!
Careful though, the prefits can breed like rabbits if yer not mindful!!! 🤣

Ern at Altus does great work, yeah? I have a barrel that he did a beautiful job with.

My first Ern barrel is a doozy.

A good friend suggested a load that has performed for him for years, so I tried it.

Zeroed and first group on paper was a 0.189” group.
5 rds at 100.

It is frequently in the low .2s

Never did any more load work.

Others are nearly as good, likely more issues with the monkey on the trigger and loading.
.3s-.4s so far, but havent done seating depth tests yet.
Been too busy!

I have maybe 6 PVA prefit barrels now and they are all very accurate also. One is Bartlein blank I sent in to Josh, one is a Proof blank again which I sent in and the others are Osprey blanks, which are excellent. After my first Osprey I was sold as it was accurate and cleaned up fast and easy.

And one of the best parts about Ospreys is they usually are in stock so no super long wait to get them from Josh @bohem . Maybe I should stop telling people about them. Hmm. LOL

If you do good work, your leadtimes will be up there.......regardless of your output. I am battling that now. Seems like the more I increase capability......the ratio of "waiting" stays the same......haha.

Lots of great builders out there, pick one with a good rep, good price, and good leadtime......you will be happy.
