So where is the best place to purchase target ammo?

I am new to the rimfire game and spent many years in handguns and decided I would rather play with something cheaper. At least that is what I told my wife when I quoted ammo prices. Never told her that the gun itself will cost more than a few of my handguns

Well it depends on what you want and what your guns shoot well. In my neck of the woods the most popular target 22 ammo is CCI green tag, which is hunted for at Dicks for about $20 for 50. My Mk2 shoots it better than many twice the price. However you can also check out an online place like ammo2go.com and others.

What level of accuracy are you wishing to obtain, what firearm(s) are you going to be shooting, and at what distance(s)?

Dependent on your answers to the above questions you could possibly go as economical as CCI Standard (typically available at your local Wally World) or you may desire something more exotic from Lapua or Eley which is typically procured from Champion's Shooter Supply or Champion's Choice in the quantity of a box (50), carton/brick (500) or case (5000).

I'd start with about 100-150 rounds of a few brands to see what you rimfire likes and your wallet can afford to feed it. Once you have settled on a brand then you can drill down further by testing specific lots and then ordering as much of that as possible to minimize repeating the testing process frequently. For reference the Lapua factory in Germany also makes SK Jagd and Wolf. Lastly, don't forget to run a dry patch between testing brands of ammo as the type of lube used on various target grade rimfire ammo can effect your results when switching. Good luck.

It's flat out hard to beat Wolf MT for the money!

A shockingly horrible group shot out of my better 22's at 50Y with said ammo is usually less than 1"(wind included) at 50Y. Come to think of it all 5 touching is much more common.

Last time I bought it I paid $54 for a 500 brick at Bruno's.

Re: Target Rimfire Ammunition

I purchased a Kimber 82G tonight and need to find out what to put in it I guess.

I will pick up some wolf, I already have some Green Tag on Hand and of course CCI SV.

Thanks for the input.
