I bought a brand new Taurus PT 1911 last week as a plinker for the summer, until I can make my mind up on which "custom" I want to order and then wait for 3-6 months until it is done. I took the Taurus out shooting today, after 30 rounds it stove pipes. I eject, rechamber, stove pipe. I eject the magazine, and the shell and look in the chamber. What do I see? A broken extractor. It was broken right off. So, I called Taurus and they say they will fix it, but it will be 4-6 weeks turn around time. I think I should have just not shot .45 this summer. Anybody else have any similar experiences with Taurus?

Re: taurus pt 1911

I have actually had the exact opposite experience with my PT 1911. Around 500-600 rounds through it with zero problems. I've heard mixed reports about the Taurus, but have been pleasantly surprised with it's performance and have nothing but good things to say so far.

Hopefully Taurus will set it right. How was dealing with their customer service?

Re: taurus pt 1911

I kept my PT 1911 about three weeks. It shot ok, but the rear sight was cut wrong and the fit/finish were pretty sloppy. I called Taurus CS and got the same story. "Sure, send it to us on your own dime and then we'll keep if for a couple months and if we decide there is a problem we might fix it". I even offered to email detailed pictures of the QC error and they said "we aren't allowed to accept emails"...WTF?...sold it on consignment...lesson learned.

Look at a Rock Island Armory Tactical for under $500 OR spend the 750-2,500 it takes to get some respectable name brand recognition (and hopefully the quality that should accompany it).

Best of luck moving forward.

Yep, Taurus is shit. Consider yourself warned. Replace the extractor yourself and sell it.

Once bitten, twice shy. Do yourself a favor and don't ever buy a Taurus again.
