I am having a 338 Edge built and thinking of using the muzzle break the Thunder beast threads on to. How affective is it as a muzzle break when the suppressor is not installed. Just weighing my options. The rifle will be done long before I have the can, and dont want to have to send it off again to have the thunderbeast break installed so thinking of just buying the break and having it installed than when I get the thunderbeast I can just use the breakit comes with on my 308.

Thats sorta what I'm afraid of. Ill probably just end up with the muscle break that takes the same thread as the TBAB. That way Ill get the normal thread on and when I can afford it Ill just shoot it suppressed all the time

Re: TBAC 338 muzzle break.

For recoil reduction, an effective brake (such as the APA fat bastard) is MUCH MORE effective at reducing recoil than a suppressor. When I had my edge, I preferred to shoot unsuppressed. Of course, the gun was sooooo much cooler when the can was on there but, the push made it near impossible to spot hits/misses. I decided I would rather hit my intended targets than look cool to all the guys I was shooting with.

338BA brake background (top), 30BA brake foreground (bottom).

338BA suppressor fits over either.

30BA suppressor fits over on the 30BA.

My main reason for wanting a suppressor is the muzzle blast on a 338 with a brake gives me a head ache after a while. The 338BA looks pretty serious.

Rayners first shoot is next weekend. I won't be there but, we can meet there at one of the other shoots. I can bring my 338 can if you want to shoot with it. It will attach to either 5/8x24 or 3/4x24. Just let me know what to bring. I read your reply about blast and that's why I bought mine. I'd become sensitive to the blast from the brake and developed one hell of a flinch. I put the can on there and dealt with the added push until I worked through the issue. After I worked around the flinch, I sent the can back for cleaning, and haven't used it in over a year.

Sounds like a plan. Ill give my 300 WM a proper send off before I have it re barreled in 338 edge.

Re: TBAC 338 muzzle break.

Fwiw, I just replaced my savage 110BA stock muzzle brake with the thunderbeast one.... Even though the stock one has three baffles and the thunderbeast had 2, I felt no difference at all with the recoil....

Obviouslyy stock brake is probably not as effective as some other ones available.... But it seemed to always get the job done.

Thats good info. From what I understand the BA is very manageable to shoot so I should be ok. BTW Awesome vette in your sig. Once upon a time I had a 99 stroked to 383.

How is the dust signiture with the thunder beast muzzle brake? I shoot in the mountains and the stock 110ba brake does very well at keeping dust sig down. But i've been interested in the thunderbeast setup for a while now.
