Is there an advantage to getting the 338P-1 over the 338BA? I know with the brake on, I can still shoot the rifle comfortably without the suppressor. But if I use the suppressor all the time anyway, should I just save the $150 and get the 338P-1?

I bought the BA. I like the idea of always having at least a brake at the end of my rifle. That way if I go shooting and I forget my suppressor, I can still shoot without discomfort.

Edit- the other advantage is you can get the brake in just about any thread pitch. So you can put it on a number of rifles without rethreading.

Also, (someone correct me if this is not the case with these suppressors)the brake will take much of the muzzle blast abuse and add life to the can.

I would like to hear Zak's opinion on which one is more accurate. My thread on cans seem to affect accuracy less than the quick attach models.

+1

It's a lot cheaper to replace a brake.

I'd recommend the 338BA. It is more versatile because you can mount it on both the 338BA and 30BA Brakes, which also serve as thread adapters, so you're not locked into one thread pattern especially if you shoot it on 6mm up to .30 caliber rifles.

The "sacrificial muzzle brake" argument has merit in theory but I've never (so far) seen any baffle wear on one of our cans when it was used on a bolt gun.

Accuracy is the same on both. The BA mount is tighter than the direct thread mount just because the shoulder is much larger and locks up on the conical surfaces of the brake and suppressor.

Re: TBAC 338P-1 vs 338BA

I run a 30BA on several of my rifles and it attaches and detached pretty darn fast. It may not have a button to push, and little clicky noises when you turn it, but it has, for me, been 100% on return to POI after taking it on and off more times then I can imagine. It, with the four or so rifles I've ran it on, has the same shift on POI suppressed vs unsuppressed. I only own 1 BA van so I can't comment if this is common or not.

For me, knowing that it is the best design I've used regarding accuracy and durability being #1 I wouldn't trade the attachment system for any other companies "fast attach" design. Besides that their brake design is also very functional.

I'm not a ninja. I just like my gear to do the same thing everytime no matter how dirty it has been, fell over onto the ground, or covered in icy mud. The TBAC brake attach does that very good.

Re: TBAC 338P-1 vs 338BA

FWIW - I got a screaming deal on 338P-1 from my dealer because everyone wants a 338BA. It had been sitting around for a while. I picked up a cheap but fugly 338 cal brake that was properly threaded and plan on running it for load dev or throwing on the rifle to protect the crown during transportation. I'm doing this only b/c I got a screaming deal on the 338P-1.

If I were buying again, I'd get a 338BA just like Zak suggested.
