Finally pulled the trigger on a 338 Ultra. TBAC said they hopefully will have mine made in about 2 months. I think this plus the NFA wait is going to drive me nuts!

I really want a 338 Ultra, and I'm about 3 months into my wait for a TBAC 22 takedown. What are you planning to run the 338 Ultra on?
Most of its use will be on an AI 338LM. I’ll probably try it out on some other rifles also. 260, 300WM, 338WM 7mmWby
That's awesome man! I would love one for my 300 wm Desert Tech, but it's just not in the budget right now. I have an Ultra 7, which actually is fine for the 300, but the 338 Ultra would be perfect. I'm very envious!!!!! The wait will be excruciating.
After a lot of researching I decided to get the 338 ultra, I bought it in June and am waiting for approval. My plan is to primarily use it on my TRG 260. I was going to go with the ultra 9 but decided since there is not much difference in length & diameter that I would go that route and have wider options for future use. I also had a 50% off certificate which factored into my decision. The other deciding factor for me was that the 338 seems to achieve a higher level of suppression than the ultra 9 on what I'd be using it on.
I've been thinking the exact same thing. The .338 suppresses better but it sure would be nice to have the shorter ultra 7 or 9 to maneuver around with.
I did the best of both. Since I don't actually plan to use the 338 Ultra on a .338 caliber rifle, I bought the 338 Ultra as a do-it-all magnum can. I got the CB2BA adapter so it'll mount to the 30CB brake, that way I can use the 338 Ultra on the range and then just mount an Ultra-7 when I hunt.
Gotcha, that's a really good idea. I mainly just want one for my .308 so will probably stick with the ultra 9 or 7. The 9 is a few DB's quieter but the 7 is shorter so I'm confused on what to do. I will mainly just be using for hunting & punching paper/steel targets so I'm leaning toward the 9.
You will love the Ultra 338. I have both the Ultra 9 and the Ultra 338. The 338 is my favorite can and I am running it on pretty much all of my rifles now, from 6.5x47 on up to 338 NM Imp. It is incredibly impressive in every way.
I don't own a .308 Win anymore, but I use it on 6.5x47, 260, 28 Nosler, 300 NM IMP, and 338 NM IMP.
I love my Ultra 7, it's surprisingly quiet even on 300WM. I have other 9" cans and didn't want another, I'm glad I went with the 7" for this purchase and it's actually quieter than my 9" cans although they're not TBAC's.

You made the right choice in my very uneducated opinion. I originally ordered an Ultra-9 in 30 cal as a "do-it-all" can. I really should have just ordered the Ultra-7 and 338 Ultra so that each of them did their separate jobs perfectly. I ended up ordering those two as well anyway. I've still been very pleased with the Ultra-9 though, a lot of people at the range are very curious whenever I shoot with it too.
I second that. I'm loving mine on my .338 NM AI. It's my favorite can. I need to try it on my 300WM and see how she does.
Well I am trying to weigh the pros and Cons of the 7" vs. the 9" inch. And after reading all the reviews, it's not making the decision any easier. Ultimately I'm not gonna be shooting PRS matches or anything so for me it will probably boil down to which one is the quietest. So I will more than likely get the Ultra 9".
Bought a Gemtech Arrow for my .338LM. It works great, the three lug adapter locks up solidly and poi is always repeatable. Still wish I had got the TBC, so I will...
I'm looking forward to it. I'm really liking the .338 LM. I'm currently shooting the largest Savage with the Coke can sized muzzle break and it's just cruel to do that to other shooters to your left or right. It's zeroed for 300 yards and I usually shoot at 3 and 4 inch clays at about 330 yards... the farthest we have at my local range without driving a couple of hours. I can get MOA on a good day when I do my part with S&B's low cost 250 grain projectiles. Looking forward to finishing my new reloading bench (moved to be closer to my 89 year old Korean and Vietnam vet dad. Two tours each place and only got hurt a little, but think he got Agent Oranged which is affecting his kidneys) I will probably upgrade my 338 when my credit cards stop screaming and my son sells some more guns at our little shop 400 miles away.
Interested to hear that you use your TBAC on a .308 also... how does it compare to shooting the same gun with a Rugged Surge or a Saker or any other quality suppressor?
That's exactly what I was hoping to hear! It seems like volume is much more important than the center bore size in suppressors. I routinely shoot full sized .45 ACP cans on 9mm host guns and they are always quieter than the own companie's dedicated 9mm suppressors. I want to get a Silencerco Osprey in the full sized .45 configuration as I have shot them on my Sig P226 Navy 9mm and the big 45 unit is much quieter than anything I own.

I shoot a .338 Ultra on a 20" .308. Using 245 gr RN lead and 10.0 gr of TrailBoss (1060 fps) it is spooky quiet. I did the final load development off of my back porch. My wife was in the kitchen 15 ft away, through one wall, said she heard only about 25% of the shots. The dogs didn't even wake up. I love it.

I just went through the same ordeal. I ended up buying the ultra 7-6.5 for prs. I will use my 50% cert to buy a 338 ultra next. I know once I have one, I will want more.

I've only used the Ultra 9 on my 6.5s, not the 28 Nosler or 300 Mag, and yes I would say the Ultra 338 is subjectively quieter. For the bigger cartridges, I think the 338 will be significantly quieter.
Huge fan of my 338 Ultra.
My only gripe is that I didn’t get it this cheap. Hell of a deal on a Gen 1 338 Ultra at Mile High. You can save another 5% when you sign up for their email notifications.
