Suppressors TBAC Ultra 9 vs. 7, 6.5mm or 30cal?

Trying to decide on which supressor to buy. This will be my first can and I have little expirence with them. It will be used for precision long range bolt guns. I currently have rifles in both 6.5 and 6mm. I at some point plan to build a 7mm vairent. I would like to know what you all prefer and why. Also torn betweeen dedicated 6.5mm and 30cal. Any insight is appreciated.

I just went thru same ordeal...Just rolled with 7” 30. I went 7” because my thoughts were maybe get a 338 can down the road. That being said, having a lighter/shorter option for now seemed like better choice. Instead of having two - 9”+ cans. To me the dB difference of 6.5 vs 30 was nominal.

I just did an Ultra 9. 30 will be more versatile. I didn't need the compactness of the 7, and wanted the extra suppression of the 9. But ive seen both and dont think you can really go wrong.

I’m glad I got the Ultra 9 .30 cal. I would like to get a 7mm-300 and won’t need another suppressor. I also went back and forth between the Ultra 7 and 9. I’ve heard the 7 and it is also impressive on a 6.5. Just not as quiet as mine.

I have the 7 and wish I went with the 9. The 7 is a little louder than I expected compared to a few other suppressors. Its main purpose is hunting though, which it should serve just fine.

I would love to get an ultra 9 .30 cal.

It would be super effective on a subsonic .308 or .300 blackout shooting 200+ grain cast bullets and it would do what it can on a supersonic .308, 7mm, 6.5, etc.

Maximum versatility.

Maybe even load heavy in a 7.62*25 and silence a Tokarev?

I originally went with a 30 cal Ultra-9. I now have an Ultra-7 and 338 Ultra on order. For one person, I'd probably just get a combo of an Ultra-7 and 338 Ultra to cover all my bases.

As I have the old 30-P1, I got the Ultra 7 but wish I went with 6.5 Ultra 7. If I had to only pick one, and knew I was going to have a 7 or possible a 300 win, I would def just get the Ultra 9 in 30 cal.

if you want ONE suppressor get the 30 caliber 7 or 9

i went with the 7 and use it in 223, 260, 308 and 300WM. very happy with my purchase

I have the 9. No regrets. 3” isn’t going to make or break jamming it through a hole to shoot. Lots of guys like a brake better for competition.

I believe thunderbeast says in their site that the 6.5 version will be 2-3 dB quieter than the same length 30 cal can on the same rifle.

First off, is this gonna be your only can or just your first? Because that dictates a lot. If you only plan on the one and plan to use it on everything, get the .30. 7", it would probably be best for a universal one, or 9" if length won't be an issue.

If you plan on getting more (most of us do, it's not called stamp collecting for nothing!) then I'd get the 6.5 9" can. If you want compact, get a 5" later. Those 5" cans work better than you think. I got one to use on .30's and 6.5 if I need less weight/length over suppression.

In the end I wound up suppressing pretty much each one individually and basically went on a suppressor buying spree the year prior to 41F.

Well, I don't know if it will be my only can. But if it's like anything else, it won't be. Very few things work well as a "do it all" and end up being a compromise. So I suppose it will be my first can.

The Ultra 9 is very much a "do it all" suppressor, as long as you aren't shooting a belt fed. For that matter, so is the 7". Most people get a .30 cal suppressor first so they can get the most use of it, from .223 up to .300 magnums

I have more than a few TBAC cans.

From my ears behind the rifle I can not tell much difference between the 6.5 and 30 caliber cans. A sound meter will for sure and people off to the side might hear a little difference.

For max quiet I would go with a 6.5 can. But when you throw in the 7mm part, that takes you straight to the 30 cal can.

It is amazing how quiet my 243 is through my Ultra 9 6.5 can is. So quiet that people will often ask me what can I am using. And thats with me shooting 49+ gns of H-1000 through it...

I shoot my 300 Whisper/BLK boltgun through my Ultra 338. Working the bolt makes more noise than the rifle going off.

Sounds like an Ultra 7 or an Ultra 9 30 caliber can will suit you well.

I have several Thunder Beast cans. I also had my 30P-1 recored with the Ultra baffles. The suppression levels between my Ultra 7 in 6.5 and my Ultra 7 in 30 caliber is barely noticeable. As you would expect, My 30P-1 is quieter than my Ultra 7. My advice - for hunting or competition get a Ultra 7 in 30 caliber. For shooting off a bench and ultimate suppression get a Ultra 9 in 30 caliber.

Get a 338 ultra , only marginally larger than the 9” 30 , unbelievable suppression on all rifles and can be used on anything... unless you absolutely need compact size (be realistic,all suppressors will make the rifle more awkward) 7-30

I'm hopefully near the end of this same journey (right at 9 months ) but I decided on .30 Cal Ultra 9 for the most suppression and versatility. I'm not trying to start a huge argument, but 2" isn't much outside the bedroom fellas. The 'but muh compactness' just doesn't make sense for my application. I have an SBR if I need to clear some rooms lol.

For PRS you're competing with ear protection anyway. I'd get an Ultra-7 for that.

I’ve known a few people that planned to get the 9” can so to compensate they installed a shorter barrel.

For a first or only can it makes the most sense for a .30 cal. More options to shoot out of it. I opted for the Ultra 7 in .30 for my first one and it’s been great. Use it on 6.5CM, .308, 300 WinMag and 300 Norma Mag. Can shoot the 6.5 or 308 without hearing protection and it feels fine to my ears. (Rock music and building houses probably ruined some hearing already lol)

I recently came into a deal on a 6.5 Ultra 7 and had to jump on it but I wouldn’t have without already having the .30.

I went with the 6.5 Ultra 7 for my 6 and 6.5 rifles and couldn't be more satisfied. Use 30 Ultra 9 for 30 cal. Can't really defend the logic but works as I had hoped.

I just went through the same dilemma, though I bought a certificate so cost wasn’t a factor. I decided on the Ultra 9. I will be rotated between my 300wm hunting rig, 6.5cm precision rig and SBR. Though a little longer than I’d like for the SBR it’ll do until I get a dedicated can. On the hunting and precision rig I went with the 9” and figured if 2” ended up being the “make it or break it” factor I’m probably doing something wrong. I have no intention of getting a 338 in the future so that was an easy decision for me.

Well I ended up pulling the trigger on an ultra 7 6.5mm can. I have a 50% off cert, so I will use that for a 338 ultra can down the road. I figure those two cans will cover my needs with the exception of a .22lr can.

I run their brakes so it was a no brainer to save the cert for a 338 ultra (being a much greater savings). I will buy the 338 down the road. Now the waiting begins. This is my first can, been wanting one for years.

For what it's worth, I have a 30p-1 (earlier model tbac) and a mask 22 as my only two cans so far and love them both.

Sorry I don't have any hands on experience with other 22 cans for comparison, but something something great minds think alike!

I think its the right move to buy a can for a gun, if you have the financial capability.

Meaning - if you own some 6.5s, buy a 6.5 can. If you own some 30s, buy a 30 can for those, etc etc.

I also think we will see changes in the mounting systems as this all evolves. Thats one positive to owning a do-it-all can. You don't have to swap out a bunch of different mounting systems.

I got the Ultra 9 to go with my Falkor Omega. Add the Kynshot hydraulic buffer and JP spring, makes for an even better platform. At almost 69 y.o., I need all the help I can get...
