Tell me about the Blazer R93

Re: Tell me about the Blazer R93

Which model and caliber? It's like asking about the Remington 700! Few people on SH have the hunting version, but there are some that have the tactical rifles (R93/UIT, LRS-1, LRS-2,...) that are basically the same rifle with small changes. The tactical rifles are high quality, very accurate, and have hammer-forged chrome-moly barrels that will last a longtime. Some people don't like Blasers because they are not as field rugged as an AI. The Blasers are in use by police and military, but not widely.

Re: Tell me about the Blazer R93

The hunting versions are imported through Blaser USA, and are available in approximately eighteen-zillion calibers and configurations. Ten thousand dollars is on the cheaper end of the spectrum for their sporting rifles. Colonel Cooper was apparently a big fan of the R93.

The tactical models are only available through Sig Sauer, and seem to be treated by Blaser USA as a totally separate product, even though it's essentially the same rifle. People tend to either like it or hate it - they're a rather unusual design, and the collet locking method is virtually unique to Blaser.

Re: Tell me about the Blazer R93

Ahh... Well, the UIT should be quite a bit more accurate than a standard LRS but I believe it's only a single-shot. Not that that's bad. Just a little limiting in a Tactical sense. I've seen Standard LRS's go anywhere from $2200 (someone here a while back... I should have bought it!) to asking prices as high as $4000 (although I didn't see it sell for that... and that was a Gunbroker price). A UIT is a little tougher to value... at least for me. I can't even venture a guess...

The one I had 7 years ago (a standard LRS) came from a Pawn-Shop in Orlando for $1500. They called me specifically about it because they knew I'd like it and they knew I'd get approved by FDLE to buy it.

Re: Tell me about the Blazer R93

Hmm... I just googled it and everything I could find says the UIT is a single-shot. Interesting.

But I'm not that surprised. You should see some of the "Factory" variations of the Steyr SSG. None of which can be idenitfied... By Steyr!

Re: Tell me about the Blazer R93

I have a Blaser that says, "R93/UIT..." on the receiver, but it's an LRS-1 with a magazine. There is a single-shot UIT version that's used for European rifle matches.

PS I think the box said "R93T" or "R93 Tactical". Just got the rifle out of the safe and the receiver says "Mod. R93 UIT Blaser" but it's mag fed and came from Blaser with a Leupold scope and saddle mount as a factory package. I had forgotten how nice these things are!

Re: Tell me about the Blazer R93

wow, thats got to be one of the older models. I bet that would be hard to try and find today. My best friend shoots an lrs2 and despite it being a bit more finiky with the ammo it likes, it is one of the best shooting rifles I have ever seen. He recently got a gemtech HVT for it and it shoots great.

Re: Tell me about the Blazer R93

Does anyone know where I can purchase a Blaser Tactical 2 .308 cal muzzle break? Sig is so hard to deal with and I can't seem to find one on the internet.

Re: Tell me about the Blazer R93

The bolt manipulation is a bit unusual, but it's a nice, accurate rifle out of the box. Recoil seemed a bit sharp for me, but that's just my opinion.

Re: Tell me about the Blazer R93

There's a father and son at the range I shoot at who have a pair of those guns... it's very cool how modular they are. It's like the upper-lower thing on AR's. They had two "lowers" and four or so "uppers" each with their own scope. That collet bolt looks neat, seems to have many of the advantages of the Savage style floating bolt head plus the forces are distributed all around the bolt head instead of just the bolt lugs. The bolt also seemed very quick to work.

Re: Tell me about the Blazer R93

It's definitely an unusual rifle, but they can definitely shoot. The balance has never felt quite right for me personally, but that's just my opinion. Aesthetically, people either love 'em or hate 'em. The caliber change (at least on the hunting rifles) is amazingly straightforward and easy.

We've got one for sale right now in the Commercial forum, if anyone's looking for a used LRS2:
