Rifle Scopes Tenabraex or aadland scope caps for a s&b pmii 5-25-56?

I have a pmii arriving hopefully Monday. I understand they come with Butler creek caps but are tenabraex or aadland the best caps?

On the tenabraex the od of the objective cover looks to be the same as the scopes obj. od, is this correct? If so it would be an advantage.

I like them a lot! They're expensive, but I swore off Butler Creeks when they changed the plastic they use. I broke so many I said to myself that I will NEVER buy anything from them again.

Aadmount makes good caps too.

Strangely enough, I have bc caps on everything I own and have never had one break but I know it's just a matter of time. I'm pretty good at breaking things too. Forgot about the aadmount. Only thing about the tenabraex is they look kind of large on the eyepiece.

I am completed sold on Tenebraex covers. I bought a crap load of them for everything they had sizes for when EuroOptic first announced them. If you could mess up Tenebraex covers, you could rip the horn off of an anvil. Even more recently you can get them in tan to "roughly, not perfectly" match the RAL8000 colored scopes.

NF is shipping them on some scope lines now.

Are the tenebraex objective covers about the same od as the scopes objective?

They are larger, but they do freely rotate around the adapter that screws into the objective. You do need some rail clearance though.

I'll take you up on that if you don't mind. Problem is scope and 1" seekins rings are due Monday so I really don't know how much clearance I will have. Its going on a tikka with a bartlein in rem varmint contour. I can compare your measurement to the bc caps od to know for sure.

Roger that. You do mean 1" height rings or 1-inch diameter rings? It's a 34mm tube, just to be clear!

Here are the measurements. I did this with calipers, so it's going to be pretty spot-on:

S&B 5-25x MTC - 56mm objective bell: 2.45"

Objective cover diameter outside of tabs: 2.66"

Objective cover diameter including tabs: 2.75"

You can run the cover horizontal also, which means you's need roughly 2.7" of total clearance for hassle-free operation. The ocular and objective covers are fully rotatable on the fly - no dismounting/remounting or anything.

You won't be disappointed. It really is a shame that S&B sends out Butler Creek caps on $4K scopes, but I understand why they do. I can't tell you how many hinge pins have fell out or just plain broken hinges I have had on BC caps over the years.

Wow.. pretty sure I've broken a dozen just from flipping them open. Maybe they've since changed back to the original plastic formula. No matter, screw them.

I haven't had aad caps but the tenabrax are very very nice and hard to brake. Second I would say the new vortex are pretty nice

They will pop off before they break, which has its advantages, but because they freely rotate, the ocular lens cap has always fallen down to the side under recoil and I have to rotate it back or remove it completely to manipulate the bolt. I will be purchasing AAD shortly to test them out.
Also Vortexs new scope cover are pretty nice too, my only complaint is that they're more of a universal fit then a specific O.D. therefore the cap itself likes to shift when opening or closing.

Hmm, interesting issue with the ocular cover rotating. Anyone else experiencing this?

The honeycomb pattern they use is much larger than the Tenebrex and thus doesn't affect the light gather much if at all. I can't tell a difference. The caps also have a screw tightening mech. Nice touch.

Thank you for the info on the aadlands. I hadn't thought about the sunshade. Can the honeycomb section be removed for use as a sun shade only?

That would be cool but no removal of the honeycomb. Honestly though I'm not seeing a difference with it vs. the caps.
