Texas will be the richest state in the Union....

Sadly too many filthy yankees and even worse, Kalifornians are moving here. My Property Tax is 12k per year and rising.I will most likely retire somewhere else. Its like watching a young free loving state getting infected with a communist cancer, must be treated with lead poisioning at some point unfortunately. I give this state one more election cycle.

Jeebus, Jerry. That's some unreal property tax. I thought we got raped in California at 1.5% property tax.

Property tax rates (as a %) are higher in Texas than California. However, property values are lower- and MUCH lower for similar property- so actual property tax bills tend to be MUCH lower. Add to that no state income tax and generally lower sales tax and when the tax man cometh, he leaveth with less money here than there...

Fucking-A Jerry. Same people, same deal here. It's getting just a bit retarded if you ask me.

I'm a little close to Austin - a new vegan smoothie shop opens every day sadly. In my opinion, they can have Austin - it's a lost cause. We get the rest of the state though.

A Texas lawmaker is proposing a bill to fine men $100 every time they masturbate in order to make a point about legislation that restricts women's access to health care and abortions

Rep. Jessica Farrar's bill would also instill a 24-hour waiting period and require a 'medically unnecessary digital rectal exam' before a man is allowed to receive a vasectomy, colonoscopy, or a prescription for Viagra.

Maybe every Texas male should "fill an envelope" and mail it to her.

I didn't realize Texas did not have state income tax, that takes the sting out some. Add to that a lower sales tax and it helps a lot. I think Commiefornia is around 8.25% sales tax.

The more I hear about Texas the less I like about it

Thats how we like it.

State sales tax is 6.25% with the others jurisdictions bringing it up to the typically encountered 8.25%.
We have a property tax in lieu of an income tax. Typical property tax rates are between 1-2% combined but can be higher. Your average $200k home will be 3-4k per year usually. Thats way less paid in than others with state income tax. I pay zero state tax outside of the sales.

I do unfortunately have to explain the difference between property tax and income tax to everyone who chooses to protest their property appraisals. Its amazing how little people understand the system in place for taxing and how good it really in in Texas.

Where you from in the region? I used to feel the same way about Austin (work here now) but its just as bad everywhere Im going with any population. More idiots moving in than can be managed. Thats why every Friday at 5 oclock Im on a beeline headed south.

I Like how the school portion of the property tax stays where you live. Well at least until "recapture" and our little ass school was considered one of the richest in the state and Austin tries to steal enough money out of our school to damn near close it down.

I am north of Austin by about 20 miles in Pflugerville. Still in Travis county by about 2 miles unfortunately, which means I get hit with it's delicious taxes. Payed nearly 8K in property taxes last year after the damn education tax! I don't even have any children (that I know of). They really should look at that fact and adjust the rate accordingly. I don't mind paying into it a little, but the full monte is a bit extreme considering it's a passive benefit (for myself particularly). All in the hopes that they will mature into a productful member of society... time will tell there.

Traffic is getting bad though. Really bad. Screw I-35 - it's just not an option anymore after 14:00 until around 19:00. That's another reason why I end up paying close to $120 a month in tolls. Still, I've lived in many other cities and have no desire to move currently. Definitely not a more gun-friendly state out there!

We should hit up the range sometime in the future if you are free.
