The $1400 5.56 AR choice - BCM, DD, Colt or Ruger

Re: The $1400 5.56 AR choice - BCM, DD, Colt or Ruger

If it is between those options ONLY, it would be a toss up for me between the DD and the Colt in terms of overall quality, but I think the DD would edge out the Colt for me based on the features available on the DD and my experience with them being very accurate ARs.

But, like the dawg said...I'd probably make a $1400 AR a DIY project.

This, but if I had to choose one of those options Id go with the BCM.

Ultimately Id choose a Noveske though...

THIS.....

Best part about the platform. Easy to purchase top-shelf components tailored to your shooting needs.

Build it or buy an LMT MRP I have seen them go for less than that new on gun broker. If I had to go with a factory built rifle it would be an LMT or JP Rifle.

Re: The $1400 5.56 AR choice - BCM, DD, Colt or Ruger

Thanks for the responses. For the 5.56 I am trying to keep a budget of $1400. THe ARs I listed were what I initially found in that price range. This platform I am looking for something that is very maneuverable and fast in the hand. This wont be the long range gun, more for close range and the occasional medium range engagement. Think home protecting / CQB duties with a little range capabilities.

I also want a 7.62 platform and I will obviously pay more for that since POF, JP, LMT and LWRC are on that short list and in general 7.62 platform inherently cost more. Of Course if Colt CM901 or SIG716 gets into the civilian market (who knows when) they too would be worth looking at. That set up would be for longer range than the 5.56 I am thinking of. Hence leaning toward a POF or the excellent JP platforms. I would love a 7.62 to be the best of both worlds, but realistically I know I can't have my cake and eat it too. If I am overlooking something please let me know, I would rather spend the coin on one jack of all trade rifle than two or three specific purpose rifles.

I am not opposed to building a AR, my only issue is the butt-stocks have to be fixed or pinned, barrel can not be less than 16 inches and can not have a flash suppressor or be threaded for a suppressor. NYS Gun laws I have to abide by are here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/13624979/New-York-State-Gun-Laws

I just saw a LMT MRP NIB on Gunbroker for $1,400. I have one and love it, very nice and the fit and finish is the best I have seen on a AR. I have had a few AR's in my time and it has been my favorite by far.

Or have Specialized Dynamics build it.

+1000. My LMT has been flawless

Re: The $1400 5.56 AR choice - BCM, DD, Colt or Ruger

Seeing that I live in NEw York, does building it myself allow me to have features on the AR build that I could not otherwise get straight from a AR builder?
i.e. = Collapsable stock, or flash suppressor?

Re: The $1400 5.56 AR choice - BCM, DD, Colt or Ruger

@Alderleet...
Small world, I spend the better part of 4 years at Hill AFB. I never could understand building an Air Force base is 1/3 of the miltary's munitions on a semi-active fault line.
Anyways...back to topic. Half the crap I like on an AR I cant get while living in NYS. I think I have to move...Tennessee is sounding good.
