Was just having a discussion with a friend of mine the other day, after buying a car out East, and driving home, only to get stuck because of mechanical issues in the Heartland of America. Lucky it was in a good sized town on the interstate. I ended up renting a U-Haul to get my vehicle to a specialty shop for repair six hours away.

Remember back in the 60's and 70's, cars could be repaired on the side of the road with some simple tools by anyone mechanically inclined, short of a severe engine failure. If you couldn't fix it yourself, a tow truck would get you to the nearest gas station, which typically had a full time mechanic, and would most likely get you back on the road within a day.

Fast forward to this new century, where most people can't even change a tire on the side of the road when they get a flat. Gas stations don't usually have mechanics anymore, and even getting a tire pressure gauge from the attendant is impossible, and they don't even offer a air hose anymore.

Car repair centers take days to diagnose a problem, after waiting a week to even get your vehicle looked at. And welcome to the new world, were parts aren't even available to fix your vehicle because of the huge parts shortage backlog.
