Theoretical discussion is welcome, but what I really would like to here is from people that have actually done it. What were the results?

I'm considering doing it but was just wondering how big a difference it makes in a stock like this with the aluminum bedding block.

Re: The effects of bedding a B&C stock. "?"

Aluminum bedding blocks are nice and all but skim bedding should help. I've never not had bedding fill in behind the lug on an aluminum block.

Al bock is great for strength, but it is not a precision fit to your action, the reason to bed is so the action mated to the stock the same way each and every time. If you do a proper stress free skim bed, I really think you will see the difference downrange.

Try this if you want proof. Just tighten the front action screw and see if the rear tang rides on air, and do the same for the rear action screw and see if the front of your action raises up when you tighten the rear, about a 85% chance of one or the other on a factory Rem action doing this due to the action being bananna shaped if you will.

Cool test. I'll try that. Thanks.

ETA: just tried it and it did not visually seem ride up on either side.

I know that doesn't discount the fact that bedding might still help (I'm gonna guess in the recoil lug area), just that maybe my receiver is kinda straight.

Good bedding is never a concession and it is folly to think that an aluminum block can begin to compete with an exacting cast.

Do you need to drill or cut in the bedding block to the skim bed gets a mechanical lock with the aluminum block?

Re: The effects of bedding a B&C stock. "?"

Nope, just clean the block well (its already been blasted to retain bedding) and cut small locks in the stock surface if you wish where you are bedding. Small is good, big will often introduce air voids in bedding. Definitely scuff the stock material and painted area prior to bedding.

Thanks Wade. I guess I have 3 of them to do.
