The fine gentleman that sold me my press last weekend followed up with me this week, just like he said he would. I am just getting home from a 3hr. tutorial on my Dillon RL550C. He showed me initial set up for the caliber that I want to start loading with. Had me take his down and set it up. I walked away with 30 fresh rounds of .300 BO and a renewed passion. So damn cool to manufacture your own rounds. I feel like I did when I hooked a fish on one of my first tied flies. Invigorated. I am sure I will have boat loads of questions as I progress into my precision cartridge hand loading. But suffice it to say, the hook was firmly set into my jaw today. Now, I am off to Brownell's...:ROFLMAO::sneaky:

Check out accurateshooter.com for a lot of REALLY GOOD reloading information. There is also a forum on that page that is a great place to ask questions.

enjoy the press! I jokingly told my friend that reloading is like crocheting for men. ?

Congrats on the Dillon. I cranked out a couple hundred rounds of 9mm today wondering how many rounds have been loaded on my 550B over the years. I would guess 70 to 80 thousand? I won it at some sort of a state championship pistol match. Its faded from the original Dillon blue to sort of a green. Man I love that press.

I went into my local shop looking to purchase a 650. After the gentleman that runs the hand loading section asked me what I wanted out of the press, he steered me towards the 550. And after today, I am thankful that he did. I broke into the 550 box today and was planning on mounting it. No dice. It doesn't come with the mounting bolts... No biggee. Off to the hardware store tomorrow.

The best bonus of rolling your own is you don't have to worry about a ammo shortage. There a good supply of components at this moment.

I have been shooting rifles competitively for 20 years and reloading for most of it. I have had barrels that don’t shoot well, and found that changing components such as bullet or powder can make significant improvements in accuracy. I have not found the case to be true for primers. I use good primers to start with (Federal 210M, or CCI BR-2 for example). However, after load development I have occasionally run out of primers and had to switch to another brand. This did not have negative results on the accuracy.

Out of the many variables that affect accuracy, primers just don’t make that much difference.

I'm in SE Georgia, just outside Savannah. Only a couple of places around that carry any supplies, one is Bass Pro, so you can kind of figure it's a reloading desert. Best place I know of is outside Athens, 3 plus hours away.
I have several bricks of CCI 400's, just want to get some 450's for a 6GT I have coming.
Didn't mean to hijack the thread.

I'll be honest, every penny I saved on ammo I've spent on components. A new rifle barrel also gets 3k bullets, primer, and powder. I've also shot 3 or 4 times more than I could have and don't notice ammo shortages unless I don't want to load a few hundred rounds.

ETA: Or Jeep parts. Just Empty Every Pocket

You'll probably want to check out my local friend's business.....
