The "I don't just shoot my mouth off..." Thread...

22 lr only, or can a 17hmr play?

Yep, Pretty informal.

If you want to compare with others apples to apples than .22 rifle and A23.

Ill admit I spend too much time in the Bear Pit, sign of the times and mindset of the country, but I do check all sections and contribute where I can.

Some peeps never get seen unless its in the Bear Pit. Nice to know if they are here they have at least shot a rifle at some point in their life. Results matter less than just showing you have a rifle and pulled the trigger on it.

Im actually kind of impressed APOG not only came up with a target but was first poster. I hope he didn't get his jodphurs stained with any Hoppes during cleanup and the sun set lightly upon his pith helmet. I imagine his gun bearer likely did the clean up on the CZ though while he enjoyed an afternoon tea.

Hey wait... turtles? I need a few painted's for my pond. Instead of popping them... save me a few! I'll pick up.

If you are talking snappers... ace them all you want!

Cheers,

Sirhr

I had read somewhere that the it's the painted turtles that actually do the fish population the most damage, because they destroy fish beds. I'm shooting both species.

Missed this thread, initially.
Here's my Salvage TR, with DIP shit, PA 4-14x44 Mildot. Shooting WOLF Match: D81FBCB5-C636-431F-A845-3969D0E70EDC_zpskcx4syxk.jpg

Time to do a bedding job in this thing. That low/right shift is startin' to get old...

Why not let this one play out for awhile with the low bar .22.

Perhaps each month the Bear Pit should have a shooting challenge just to maintain the spirit of the site. Something simple - 10 shots centerfire 1" circle at 100, 2" circle at 200 or similar.

For shits and giggles design a pistol challenge and lets see some real shotgun patterning. That might put someones BTDT tactical knowledge in perspective.

This way we might be able to think the other guys a dick but perhaps respect his shooting ability or vice versa think "There is a smart man but he couldn't aim and hit the ground".

Time and access might limit many. I suffer only having 300 yards readily available and Im sure there are guys in this section that may be much more limited.

If you have a Chinese food restaurant nearby and you take your kills to the proprietor he will probably reward you with as many number tens from the takeout menu as you desire.

75 (irons) or 100 yd, 12 shots, 22LR, 3 shots each for positional - prone (off of bag, no rear bag), sitting, kneeling standing. No giant puff pillows and shit hanging off your elbows. just you, rifle, optic/sights, sling. That sounds hard to me.

A once a month visit to the range should not be prohibitive (unless deployed or something).

Ok, if we are going to compare 10-shot 100-yard targets from Smallbore Nationals, I shot these 2 last year, both prone from sling. First one was with irons, 2nd was with 20x SWFA SS on top:

Lash posted a target may have jumped the shark but not sure I have ever tried a twenty five shot group at 200. That might be worth trying next weekend.

Here's the result of 2x 20-shot matches + sighters at 200 yards with .22lr. X-ring is 2", 10-ring is 4". Shot from prone with sling & irons. Scores were 200-9x and 197-7x.

I pretty much only get to the range on my way home from work.

My attire is not appropriate for positional shooting. Though I think there is great advantage in locking in with an M1907 sling I may break my whistle or ruin the spit shine going prone....

and do note the hypocrisy of the guy that actually wears jodphurs made fun of you for wearing jodphurs. You outed me.

Erud,

Those are great targets.

I can barely get 100 yards of elevation on the Unertl. I guess the mounting blocks were probably set up for 50 yard indoor.

also my cheap ammo really shows its cheapness beyond 50, it falls apart on those long flights.

I'd have loved the comments if you hadn't stated you were shooting .260. Heck, I got accused of shooting a 410 #2.

Yes, that was a desperate attempt to garner attention. Guilty as charged.

But seriously, I do have a brand new Salvage .22 that needs to be broken out so that I can do stuff like this for fun and big prizes. Maybe I'll dig it out and see what ammo can be found locally for another run at the A23 target this coming weekend.

Do those boots come with a riding crop?

ide be down for a monthly 4P match.

something like 100yds on an A-25 target?

maybe 5 shots each position?

more importantly, do they come with what must be a mandatory German accent... see, that whole piss thing is Germanic. Now the uniform, the strides, boots... you probably wear tight black leather gloves that creak... hey, it's a great look if you can pull it off...

Does he have a handle bar mustache, flamboyant personality, and a great singing voice?

Anyway, I'll order a couple rails from DIP (anyone better these days?). It may take me a few weeks to get sights on and out to a 50yd range, but I'll drop trou and show what I got just like everyone else.

I think you need handicapping somehow. but yeah, 5 shots sounds more traditional.

does the mental variety count, because i think im already way ahead of you, haha

honestly ide probably shoot with my 10/22 or my savage and not my annie....the match gun is kind of boring to shoot....and its a real pain in the ass to drag out and set up.

Damn you! Ive been outed!

I swear (and I don't do that lightly) I thought "that cocky son of a gun is confident enough to say something like 'it's not kosher to reveal LEO identity'". Well played. It's the overly sensitive that make me think I've cut a little close to the bone. But I've long put you down as the real deal; even on the pre-scout site.

Regardless, I'm now picturing you as Nacho the luchadore after your use of "breeches". (Yes, I realize your usage is technically spot-on correct; but is uncommon enough in our modern vernacular (unless a lot of Hide members do dressage or something) that I hope you'll indulge me if I have a chuckle: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6Y6z3v0cCU8

Don't think I don't see what you did there. Now excuse me whilst I figure out how to extricate myself from a bus I find someone has just thrown me under.

The strongest organizations run on tradition yet are not bound by it.

Call a blouse a shirt on PI and you will be digging, likewise a bulkhead a wall...scuz brushes get'em...Aye, Aye Sir.

Ive been lucky to belong to two organizations that feel its a duty to remember the past while trying to bring tradition into the future.

....but Ill admit there are much better get ups to wear than field boots and breeches for some work but if worn right the look can prevent some disagreements by making the presentation an argument will not go well.

I'd say it's a tight race between a lot of us...

Now you're showing off by coming 'down' to a 10/22.

10-22 is a fine gun. I'll shoot my Win 72 and if we are not bored of this by than it will be fun to break out my first ever owned firearm the Ruger 10-22. I'll be holding Kentucky windage but guess it will do fine.

Yeah, but not your average 10/22. I do not own a 10/22 and cut my teeth on a model 82 (I think) Marlin, shooting against my brother's Mossberg. We had a blast and learned how to compete.

When we get around to shooting irons, that will be what I shoot, but admit that I haven't pulled the trigger on it in over 45 years. Does that date me a little?

10/22 Target with a Kidd 12/12 straight shoe trigger. Orphaned Leupy VX-III 3.5-10x40 mil reticle/MOA turrets (remember those?)
off of a gasser I sold years ago. Triad stock pack orphaned off a Savage 10FP and I swiped the wife's Harris off her AR. My 22 Frankengun. It runs on a steady diet of Wolf ME and is sighted at 40 yards.

I was was rushed to get to work this morning, but conditions were good, so I had time for one crack at it. 44 degrees, 10 o'clock at 5mph, and a BP of 30.11
