There is no issue for any loyal DOD employee to serve with gay/straight/ethnicity/insert whatever label you want in here. It is a the law and a lawful order. Has been since DADT was repealed. We carried out the instructions from the Congress, the Commander, the SecDef and General Casey. Despite shrill claims by supposedly knowledgable and responsible members of the Congress and even high level DOD leadership (who were much older and apparently had not evolved...), the Republic maintained its unity and was just as strong as it ever was, even more so. If someone has a personal bias towards gays (or anyone else with whatever label you want to insert) then you keep it to yourself or face serious UCMJ charges. The current force is the best its ever been. Period. Coming from combat arms, its no issue. Have had plenty of buddies with a different orientation in peace and war and it didnt/dont/doesnt matter. One came out of 75th - big and bad enough for you? Would it surprise you to know some of your heroes were or might have been gay? Does that change anything and if so, why? I thought their service or deed was important than whatever it was they were, represented, or came from? For you neo-cons VP Cheney has gay family and stands up for them. How do you like me now? President HW Bush just attended a gay friend's wedding. Change your perception of that man and what he stands for? Would you ridicule a MOH recipient if you found out he/she was gay? Or heard one say he supports equal human rights?
Bigotry is learned behavior based in ignorance, fear and outright falsehoods. There is nothing out of the ordinary from any category of humans that gays are or are not capable of just like any other. They are just like anyone else because they are humans. Duh. There is (and has been for many years) compelling scientific evidence gay identity occurs in utero. Thats Gods realm there. If you are religious, do you challenge what God hath wrought? God make everything and called it good so if you feel like stepping on big toes go ahead. If you are Christian how you square bias against the Jesus' teaching to love one another, God so loved the whole world, and be like the good Samaritan? Or look into the theology of any great religion or consult your clergy. It becomes impossible to maintain hatred and ill treatment towards ones fellow man in light of those precepts.
This isnt meant to be a rant/lecture but clicking this thread to get a little humor quickly reveals itself to contain hateful bias that is completely unjustified. But check out the company you will stand with. The Nazis included gays in their murder lists. President Putin and his rubber stamp Duma passed some heinous laws just before the 2014 Olympics. The Saudi and current Iranian govts execute gays. Or those cultures that beat, burn and murder their members if someone is outed. You still comfortable with that? Check FBI crime stats and look at some of the atrocious beatings, torture and murders perpetrated against gays. Or does that get you off? What if you found out your mom or dad was gay? Dont laugh, it happens. Or how about your kids? What are you going to do with (or to) your kids when they hit puberty? Ok, so maybe you arent really up for casting the first stone in a good old fashioned medieval lynching and cant stomach outright murder or assault but you are ok with social stigmatizing and bullying. Well, that contributes to quite a bit of suicides and many other maladies. Maybe thats what you are cool with; brutal social bullying towards gays. That is. Not. awesome. And if you do it on a public forum you look like a jackass.
For many years now there has been a growing body of scientific evidence that gays do not imply the complete collapse of society, your religion, the military, the family, etc etc etc. If you still want to commit to hate and brutality, go ahead. But I urge you consider not doing it. Live a life of honor and virtue. Ever look at Frank's signature line. It means something. Do it.

If a moh recipient came out gay I'd say "that person did some heroic amazing acts and bless him/her, I don't condone his/her being a homosexual on my own belief system but they sure have my respect"

Finally and in the final analysis - if you need to take a test to determine if you are a man then you probably have a ways to go.
The advantage of age is that you develop an ego and you worry more about what you think of people than you worry about what people think of you.
Yes I do worry about some of our folks here. I can only assume they must be pretty young and they worry about what folks think about them.

Tests and homophobia are all well and good, but in the end it comes down to how you manage your relationships.

It is important for men to remember that as women grow older it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping they did when they were younger. When men notice this, they should try not to yell. Let me relate how I handle the situation.

When I took early retirement a year ago, it became necessary for Nancy to get a full-time job both for extra income and for health insurance benefits that we need. She was a trained lab tech when we met thirty some years ago and was fortunate to land a job at the local medical center as a phlebotomist. It was shortly after she started working at this job that I noticed that she was beginning to show her age.

I usually get home from fishing or hunting about the same time she gets home from work. Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says that she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts supper. I try not to yell at her when this happens. Instead, I tell her to take her time. I understand that she is not as young as she used to be. I just tell her to wake me when she finally does get supper on the table. She used to wash and dry the dishes as soon as we finished eating. It is now not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after supper. I do what I can by reminding her several times each evening that they aren't cleaning themselves. I know she appreciates this, as it does seem to help her get them done before she goes to bed.

Our washer and dryer are in the basement. When she was younger, Nancy used to be able to go up and down the stairs all day and not get tired. Now that she is older she seems to get tired so much more quickly. Sometimes she says she just can't make another trip down those steps. I don't make a big issue of this. As long as she finishes up the laundry the next evening, I am willing to overlook it. Not only that, but unless I need something ironed to wear to Monday's lodge meeting or to Wednesday's or Saturday's poker club or to Tuesday's or Thursday's bowling or something like that, I will tell her to wait until the next evening to do the ironing. This gives her a little more time to do some of those odds and ends things like shampooing the dog, vacuuming, or dusting. Also, if I have had a really good day fishing, this allows her to gut and scale the fish at a more leisurely pace.

Nancy is starting to complain a little occasionally. Not often, mind you, but just enough for me to notice. For example, she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. In spite of her complaining, I continue to try to offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two or even three days. That way she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any, if you know what I mean.

When doing simple jobs she seems to think she needs more rest periods than she used to have to take. A couple of weeks ago she said she had to take a break when she was only half finished mowing the yard. I overlook comments like these because I realize it's just age talking. In fact, I try to not embarrass her when she needs these little extra rest breaks. I tell her to fix herself a nice, big, cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. I tell her that as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me and take her break by the hammock so she can talk with me until I fall asleep.

I could go on and on, but I think you know where I'm coming from. I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support Nancy on a daily basis. I'm not saying that the ability to show this much consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible. No one knows better than I do how frustrating women can become as they get older. My purpose in writing this is simply to suggest that you make the effort. I realize that achieving the exemplary level of showing consideration I have attained is out of reach for the average man. However guys, even if you just yell at your wife a little less often because of this article, I will consider that writing it was worthwhile.

Used to believe in the theory that gays are born, changed my beliefs after the pedifiles and those into beastieality ect think they were just born to be sexually attracted to children and animals, if you ever talk to gheys about what they do behind closed doors you may be shocked to find they are into way more than just packing mud and sucking dick they are truly sick.

Really, and just how to did you come to know me so fucking well? I work with gays and straight, fat and skinny, ugly and hot, blacks, white, asian, hispanic, you name it. One of the kids at work that I take to the range because he has taken an interest in shooting is...wait for it...gay. I also take blacks and rednecks. I share my table with all of the above at Christmas and holidays along with my wife and son. We all bleed red. I do not agree with their lifestyle and they know my position. Does that prevent a friendship, no. It was a fucking joke, same one I told at work to you guess it, a couple of gay guys. Lighten the fucking up and consider that someone besides Chapelle or other professional comedians may tell jokes that do not get your stamp of approval.
