God damn this movie is amazing! It's a viking tale for ages, full of historically accurate brutality so not for the faint of heart.

I liked it okay. I didn't see the big plot twist at the end (trying to keep spoilers out for now)

I did think it was a litter too similar to Conan (nose cut off, hiding in the others) and very strange with the pagan shit. (like the belching and farting part)

I'll definitely see it again or buy the DVD because I think there was a lot I missed with the language and accents.

A lot of that pagan shit is finally some fairly accurate Viking mysticism. I’ve never seen the popular Netflix show “Vikings”, so I can’t compare but what it feels like to me is similar to the Spartan mysticism in “300”. It’s the kind of stuff Eggers likes to do in his films and it’s got a really similar look and feel to “The Witch”.

I thought it had moments of beauty and depth but somehow didn't pull it all together at the end. It was nice seeing the dude from Generation Kill get another role. Fucker got swoll!

The Netflix Vikings started out on the History channel. It is very good and while it takes some poetic license is historically correct a good bit. I am 12% Scandanavian because some viking pounded several of my female relatives in Ireland so I enjoy Norse stuff. Even have the "Viking gene" hemachromatosis and have to give blood a couple times a year to keep my hematocrit and iron low. Left over from when producing too much blood was a good thing.
