You know when you get a new rifle and somehow you just know that's the one that will be going to the range with you every week? Today, that rifle arrived for me.

I got a call from my local FFL and Class III dealer saying that my rifle had come in. It took me an hour to drive 10 miles through DC beltway traffic, but waiting for me at the gun shop was this little beauty (sorry for the crappy cell phone pic):

I just happen to be back from R&R right now and GAP was able to get this guy cranked out and shipped so I could take it to the range a couple times before I hopped the bird back to A-stan. I wish this were going along with me.

The specs:
GAP-10 in 308
- Magpul PRS
- Geissele DMR trigger
- Fluted 17" barrel, threaded 5/8x24 for my Thunderbeast
- Noveske switchblock
- Cerakoted UD green

It's currently wearing a PH 3-15x50 with Gen II mil-dot, but will be getting a USO 1.8-10x37 with mil JNG as soon as that's finished.

When I hefted the rifle, it balanced great. I practiced a few different shooting positions with it and the GAP-10 felt so much better than my bolt guns kneeling and sitting. This rifle's going to get a lot of range and comp time. Hell, I might even take it to my deer stand this year. What a gun. Well done, GAP. Another satisfied customer.

Very nice. What made you go with a 17" barrel?

+1 for GAP for getting you your new stick during R&R! Nothing like coming back home and seeing the fam/friends and taking a new purchase out for a test drive (I too have been in your situation).

I'll hopefully get to stretch its legs on Monday with some 155s for the GAP recommended break-in period. Once I burn through those, I've got boxes of 175 SMKs and my handloads to try out. This rifle's going to get TONS of use. I foresee range days where the GAP-10, my customized 10/22, and my SA 1911 will be the only things that get my attention.

I was under the impression that Switchblocks aren't designed right for .308 Am I wrong? Was it custom, or did you go with a 6.8? Let us know how it works. I might swap over to that from a JP adjustable, depending...

I had a to wait a few extra weeks for the 308 Noveske switchblocks to come arrive at GAP. Give them a call for availability, but I know that the new switchblocks had just become an option on the GAP-10.

I'll get some groups up when next week once I can take this to the range.

These switch blocks were designed for the AR10. They help with function when going from suppressed to unsuppressed. You do not want to over gas an AR10 if you can help it.

Yeah, tell me about it. Gas regulation has been the only issue I've had with mine, and while I love the concept of an adjustable gas block, I would prefer a simpler, more robust solution than a set screw. I had been considering the Paladin Machine gas block, but it's nice to know there are more options out there. Thanks

I'm stoked at how well this rifle came out. It's my first GAP and the workmanship is phenomenal. I'm sure the rifle out shoots me right now, but I plan to shoot the shit out of it. This rifle won't be a safe queen.

Congratulation, that is a beautiful rifle. I have a request in for a build quote and hope to get something moving soon. Is that the mil-spec OD finish?

Did you get their scope mount that comes with the rifle (as I understand it)?

I don't know if the cerakote is "mil-spec". I was never issued a cerakoted weapon, though we krylon'ed the shit out of our M4s. The only similarity between krylon and cerakote is the color; cerakote is WAY stronger and more durable than the spray paint.

I did get the one piece scope mount and the 1.8-10 USO will be mounted in it once it arrives.

I ordered the rifle around the second week of February, but I asked Dustin to just set the build aside until the switchblocks came in. That certainly set the build back at least a month. Obviously that didn't bother me because I knew I wouldn't be able to shoot the rifle until either R&R, or I finished the deployment entirely. You'll want to call GAP and find out what the lead time is now.
