They do. The Leupold MK 3.6-18 and
5-25. FFP, MIL/MIL, .1 Mil adjustments, Illuminated reticle, variety of reticle designs, great glass. 3.6-18 is pretty compact.

The Mk5 uses 35mm mounts which counts it out for what I want (a hunting rifle with a decently featured scope) as it requires heavy rings + bases, as well as the scope itself weighing somewhere over 700gm. 30mm = Talley ringmounts!

I have a 3-18x44 Mk6 which is about the closest there is, aside from the March.

The vortex amg razor (in that mag range) whenever it comes out will finally fill that gap in the market.

I agree many of us have been waiting for a scope like that for a long time. Leupold tried but failed with the MK6 which has been the closest thing so far I think.

I've been waiting for a lower mag AMG, it seemed like what I was hoping for, but never yet appeared

You have light weight, compact size, small 30mm tube, good travel, and top quality together and they don't play well together.

The problem is that compact size introduces distortion that requires more lenses (more weight) to correct. If you don't add the correction, the optical quality suffers. Similarly, 30mm means small erector lenses (lower optical quality) or small travel. You mentioned the Leupold MK 6 3-18x and March. These are probably the best attempts at the lightweight, small, and optically good thing and you have given your judgement that they are not a success. You mentioned the VX-6. I have only reviewed one, lower mag, VX-6 and it's optics were not so great so I am not sure you would be satisfied with a VX-6 set up that way if you had it. I certainly wouldn't expect to beat the MK 6 as that is a higher line from the same maker.

Anyhow, my point is, your ask is actually a pretty big one. It is more likely that your really good looking short glass is going to land in the mid 30's in ounces weight or that it will be long and I can't think of an optically simple, long, mid magnification scope similar to the Sightron SIII 6-24x50mm I reviewed this year but that is sort of what you might look at if you compromised on length.

I don't actually mind the Mk6 but I wish it was 30mm, even with a 4x erector instead of 6x I would be more than happy. I don't like the march due to the 8x erector, it seems like it adds additional compromise for a gimmick where the top end of the magnification is no practical use anyway

My Mk6 replaced a 3-12x50 PMII, and had to go back to the factory day 1 out of the box as the tracking was pretty significantly Not Straight

I sent Leupold an email saying exactly this, they have the VX6/VX5 lines which could easily be adapted to FFP and Mil, they do it with the VX3 and VX3 LRP so why not the VX5/6.
They said they were aware of the gap in the market and are working towards something, but gave no timeline.

I love everything else about my 3-18x44 VX6, if they made a FFP Mil vesrion I'd buy one for all of my rifles!

Seems like a March 2-24x42mm is the ticket, only it's 34mm main tube. Remember, difference in weight between a 30 and 34 mm main tube is negligible. The March weight like 22 ounces, which is air weight compared to almost anything else. Only 12 inches long. Decent price too these days, low $2 range.

Problem is with this scope has bad FOV and snappy focus, very fiddly DOF.

Nightforce NXS 3-15x F1 w/H58 meets all the technical requirements, you failed to define “compact” and “lightweight” so it’s subjective.

Vortex PST 2....? The 2x10 is compact and the 3x15 is just fine size wise. If it’s not Gucci enough for ya then lower your expectations. 30mm, FFP, Mil, X-tree, size and weight are fine, side parallax. I think the galss is fine compared to my VX6 and VX5HD, eyebox could be better but checks all the boxes. Until an AMG comes out or something similar, it works.

I am using two scope models that are a compromise. Neither is perfect.
NF2.5-10x24 and S&B 5-20 ultra short.

I've settled on LRHS for mildly weight conscious hunting rifles and NXS 2.5-10x42 for the true backpack hunting setups.

A 3-15 ish AMG would be nice but i'm not sure how much of an improvement it'd be functionally over LRHS for hunting purposes.

The more I look at the NXS 2.5-10X42 the more I like what I see.Everything seems to be well thought out.I also like the mil reticle, Is the illumination daylight bright, and how well does it work at dusk and dawn.Also is a power ring nice and smooth to turn.

Don't you tease me like that! I hope they will make it soon, I think they will sell like hot cakes. Give me a 3-4 on the low end and 15-20 on the high end, 25 ounces or less or so, doesn't have to be an ultra short just shorter than the 6-24. I'll buy like 3....

As I have I have a Mk6, also have an LRHS, have had NXS etc in the past. The current crop of 30oz behemoths are not appealing.
