whos went from enlisted to officer in the USMC ?
Do you have to be done your 4 year college degree or just close ? how close if so ?

Does it matter the type of degree you have ( basket weaver just as good as a engineer) ?

If your Sgt or SSGT and higher Do still start 01 or lowest officer?

How old is the cut off to switch to officer school ?

You need a 4 year degree to be a commissioned officer. You have to be done with your degree. To my knowledge there is no technical requirement on degree type, though that may have bearing on your selection to become an officer if you're already enlisted. And you start as an O-1...which when I was in still outranked ~80% of the military. The only exception I know of to "jumping" ranks is related to doctors and lawyers and that's really based on their additional years of school.

And I was in the Air Force, but the same rules apply.

You need a 4yr degree from an accredited college or university. There is no "close", although the PLC program is available if you're presently in school full-time as a reservist. If you're already enlisted active duty, you'll need to look into the MECP program.

You can get in with any accredited degree, but certain degrees may make you more competitive during the application process. This might equate to a shorter processing time, which typically takes one year for OCC.

You'll start at 0-1 regardless of your previously enlisted rank.

36yrs old at commissioning, non-waiverable.

The below website lists the contact information for NJ's Officer Selection Officer (OSO): http://www.marineofficernj.com/

I hope this helps, but as a piece of advice: you need to work on your grammar before contacting an OSO in writing. If you write to their office in a manner commensurate with your original post, it won't surprise me if you're ignored.

Good luck.

Thank you guys.

I know my writing and spelling sucks, But when i write to them. i will be taking more time to write it out and double check everything. I just typed the above post while walking from one building to another so it was rough i know.

I believe Forty-One here is just such an officer. He is typically very helpful to his fellow Marines. Heck, he is even helpful to sluggardly civilians such as myself! Especially when I have to ask for the reference material necessary to understand his aliterations and especially ethereal prose.

Good Luck in your efforts.

I have done this. Any degree will work, mine is similar to basket weaving but with less opportunity to sell something at the end of a day's work.

Everyone starts as an O-1 unless you are a lawyer then you come in as an O-2 or O-3.

One mistake others have mentioned above. As of a couple of years ago, there was a program that you could be commisioned with 60 hours of credit - no degree - with the requirement that you complete your degree in either 4 or 6 years but before you are promoted to Captain or Major, I forget. I served with three officers who were in this program. I don't know if this program is still around, if you ask an Officer Selection Officer - at a recruiter's office - they should know.

Finally, I would encourage you to look at MECP. You get paid to go to college and that time counts towards retirement, I think this is the best way for an enlisted Marine to earn a commission.
