I learned a lot from him and others on the forums. I’ve been porting and machining my own for years now. Kinda reached my peak with all that and just cut firewood now when I get the time.

Here’s the hybrid I ported running a 20” bar and 9 pin
Cool, never got into porting myself but had a hell of a collection at one time. Some saw porn...
The drive sprocket. Bigger the sprocket, more chain speed. But also takes more HP to run it.

The custom sprockets use pins, see pic above. I just got used to sayin it
Was out in the shop straightening up some today and decided to mess with a project I’ve been putting off.
My neighbor from the old house gave me his Makita DCS520i chainsaw about 2 years ago. It is a rebranded Dolmar from Germany sold through Makita. It hadn’t been run in a long time and the chain was sharpened/worn til the cutters were like 1/8”
It is really clean though for a 20 something year old saw. The bar doesn’t even have a lip or any other wear, it’s the original. Heck it might be the original chain, Randy told me he hadn’t used it but a few times. I have yet to find a carb kit but I figured out it’s a 3/8 .050 chain with 64 drive links. Not going to order a chain until I get it to run.
I plan to get it running and cutting well and give it back to him.

Here’s the splitter I built, started as a 32 ton Northstar. Bent the beam on it, rebuild time came around and it turned into this.
Being in South FL, we don't get a bunch of big trees. But we had to clear these 80+ ft tall Australian Pines for a lot to build a house. Called in the professionals due to the circumstances. There are power lines, fences, houses close behind and one tree with a serious lean/some stress cracking.
I must say, watching these guys was quite entertaining. Always interesting to see someone who is good at their job and makes it look effortless.
Supposedly this stuff makes decent firewood. Kept some to find out.

Been a long time since doing any cutting. Work had me shut down last year so there was stuff down on the farm that needed tending.
Had one down in the creek that wasn’t accessible with the tractor, had to go old school.
After a lot of strokes we finally got her out. Jeez am I sore today.......

Side note. Right now I do not use chaps, but next time I run the saw or anyone here that runs a saw will wear a set. Tree guy just showed me his handy work on his leg. Saw kicked back and got him good, about 8 inches long and to the bone

I’ve always used Stihl chaps. Thankfully I can’t tell you if they work or not!
Once you get in the habit of wearing them. You won’t want to cut without.
Hauled a few loads like this, good thing I didn’t have to go far. Lol

Got out the new to me MS250 for a little cutting today. I had opened up the muffler a little, rebuilt the carb, removed the lip on the bar (looks original) cleaned it all up and sharpened the chain.
This saw cuts great, plus it is fairly light and compact. I stuck it in some 12” oak that was pretty dry and it barely slowed down, I am impressed. Some online stuff I saw called the saw under powered but I didn’t get that at all.
Goes to show that what a professional cutter has as expectations is not the same as the average guy.

I had a mishap cutting in the yard one day. Luckily my jeans took the worst of it. I stopped immediately and went and bought chaps. It happened scary quick.

I have had chain to meat, it’s scary shit. I have come to think it’s not if but when. I use Stihl pro chaps, it’s the easy button for us here in Alaska as far as shipping goes. I have also had chain to chaps, yes they work as advertised. I now also wear the ridiculous helmet with a mesh face shield and ear muffs. My local saw shop dealer was cutting firewood and a small stick was flung from the chain right in his eye like a spear. He had 2 or 3 surgeries. I was in the shop on day and asked about his patched eye. I left with a helmet, been wearing one since. I can tell you I don’t get chips or dust in my eyes anymore.
Firewood table almost done, lol. It’s going through it’s second grain raise now. Hand cut bevels on all the edges.
Working with southern yellow pine, I use 18 drops of transtint dark walnut dye in 2 quarts of water for the grain raising. Gives an almost imperceptible amount of color to the wood.
Next up is pre-stain conditioner so it won’t grain reverse on me when I dye it. The final dye is 1/2 oz transfast antique cherry brown dye powder in 1 quart water. Add 18 drops of transtint dark walnut dye. This will give you the antique pine color without having to use a brown glaze.
Then followed by a napkin holder/salt/pepper caddy and I’ll be all done!

We had a pretty good snow a few weeks back, brought down a few oaks. Excavator is sure a pleasure for wood cutting and slash piling.

I ordered a new Kubota tractor with a loader and grapple before Christmas. Should make moving and cutting logs a lot easier. 60-90 days wait.
won a local auction last night, where I had to buy the whole damn lot just to get the one thing I wanted, a Norlund double bit. It's definitely in 'barn condition' but I'll get it re-hung and at least get it cleaned off. They described it as a 'norland axe' which helped me get it for cheap I think. Picking it up today.
Won't look as good as the axes on @CSGambill 's wall, but good enough for me.

My outdoor wood boiler would love that wood waste. Looks like some kind of hardwood. I am several thousand miles north of hardwoods. I burn white spruce and white birch when I can get a tree.
That puppy must be putting out a tremendous amount of heat!
