Unfortunately, today, I do. Not only do they look dark and deep, but ugly and dangerous. </div></div>
I recall standing behind Dad's chair while JFK was giving his "Any Attack" speech. Right after it was over, Dad moved us all into the "Special Room" in the basement. At about the same time my grandfather called an said, all the Nike Bases were actively, bringing them out of the ground. A sight, that I will never forget. WGN (Chicago)was showing same on the tube. I never knew there were missiles in downtown Chicago, but there they were, coming up out of the sidewalks, fueled, fused and ready to fly.
I'd seen one or two bases do drills before, but this was no drill. I truly believe if the back room deals had fell thru, those missiles would have had to be used.
We are about the same age, I'm looking at 66 next year,
