OK
I have a IR Hunter 19mm
I hate using it to scan with. What are some options? I’m really thinking white phosphorus bridged to a ir patrol? Maybe add a laser to the set up? For when a buddy is with me. I’ve also thought about getting a 60mm reaper. How much better will the reaper be than the hunter 19?

Thanks in advance for the input gents

the questions to ask first:

What kind of terrain are you hunting?

What is the maximum distance you want to be able to shoot?

What size animals are you trying to shoot?

Is 100 percent recognition needed in order to feel safe making a shot?

What is your maximum budget?

200 yards max. Yotes. Bobcats. Coons. Heavy woods to wide open hay fields. Don’t need 100%

The 60mm reap is a great thermal weapons sight but not a scanner. Too much zoom, not enough Field of View, and way, way too heavy.

I would look at the Bering Optics Phenom as a scanner. 640x480 and they are releasing a 12µm micron version any day. The 17µm version is awesome and Bering is saying the 12 has an even better image. I hope to have my hands on one in the next week. The Bering line up isn't nearly as impacted by high humidity as many other thermal brands I have used.

If you are using it for scanning for hunting, then thermal is king.

Depending on where I’m at I like the 35 Reap and the 60 Reap. The 60 comes in handy when you need to spot way out there and ID is questionable. I usually get closer though and use the 35 on my rifle for field of view. I am getting a PVS14 to try in conjunction with a 1x Nox when they come out. Which may turn into a sold 14 and dual Nox since I’m not so privileged to have the dual skeet Gucci setup but want to pretend ala fake dual exhaust on 6 banger mustang.

If I were you and you had the coin I’d probably try and unload the Hunter get a 1x or 2x Nox and then Maybe 60Reap or Halo LR. And then maybe PVS. Honestly I’m most excited about my 14 to watch meteor showers. But thermal is only way to go for hunting. No experience with Bearing so can’t comment there.
