Thinking of running a beta-C mag... opinions?

Hi i am in a moderately hostile area right now and pondering switching over to a C-mag for my primary magazine in my carbine just to give me more ammo to break contact/ get to my saw.

Just wondering if anyone has run these on a fairly consistent basis. My major concern is can i keep it loaded for a couple months in a row and not worry about the springs weakening and failure to feeds?

Thanks

You can keep them loaded for extended periods of time however my concern would be general reliability. You can get 60% of the capacity running two PMAGs; one in the rifle and one in a Redi-Mag.

I just came off of deployment, and Beta C-mags were a big no no. They didn't care if you had 30 rounders, but we were specifically told a c-mag would get your rear in a sling. May want to ask before you shell out for one of those.

If I recall correctly, they are banned in the Ranger Battalions. Unless they have corrected the problem, the feed lips on them degrade over time, bieng a plastic type material, and the mag becomes unreliable. I procured 4 new ones for my unit while deployed, as back ups for gunners in the turret. We didn't buy any more than that. I would run 30 rounders and learn to Australian peel with your buddies.

Its been some time since I have used one, perhaps they are better now, but we could not get them to feed reliably. I would stick to the Pmag with a double mag holder or the redi mag.

Good enough. thanks guys.

Id like to run a redi mag but the client is pretty strict on keeping the m4a1's box stock with no mods. So i guess maybe the mag cinch or whatever is the best bet. And unfortunately there aren't enough buddies to peel with (why i was thinking of plusing up myself in the 1st place).

Anyways thanks for the info.

3 deployments and would never let my life depnd on one. Get better at reloading and run good 30 rounders. Don't worry aboutall the Gucci gear. Reliabillty IS the most important criteria.

A guy in my Squad ordered a Beta-C from Larue the last time I was in Afghanistan. We could never get through an entire mag without a jam.

Firebird makes a pmag coupler and if your using standard mags I really like Safariland's coupler if those are options for you

Re: Thinking of running a beta-C mag... opinions?

I had one sent to me in Sadr City in 04-05, carried it for about 3 days in the streets and dumped it. It was too heavy, and just big, awkward thing in the way. I did notice using it at ranges back here that if its not completely coated in that powder lube stuff it jammed fairly regularly.

Re: Thinking of running a beta-C mag... opinions?

40 rounders suck in the prone. But they can be a viable option when shooting from aeriel platforms.
the beta-C mag is horrible in my opinion. heavy, bulky harder to work around than a 30 rounder. and worst of all I don't believe I've ever gotten through an entire drum.
On the plus side, the beta-C mag makes excellent trading materiel on any FOB in theatre.

Re: Thinking of running a beta-C mag... opinions?

Didnt ever think of it that way. So ultimately theyd be ok in a helo or walking if you didnt ever have to go prone, but still sounds like the 30 rounder is more versatile.
