Re: This AM opening day of youth season
Proud Dad makes good!
Took my 14yo Granddaughter to the range yesterday. Her Stepdad and I were doing sight-ins/confirmations for our deer hunting implements, and she asked to go along, and especially that we bring her .22 that she's just starting to take an interest in.
After turning her loose at a bench with the .22 and a 50ft target, asked her if she wanted to try the '94AE/Dot Scope .44Mag with some .44Spec Cowboy loads. Heck yeah. Brought over the .44, showed her the fundamentals, and gave her a box of 50 to work with. Big grins, small pattern. Then shifted to full bore .44Mag 240gr loads and a 50yd target, same grin, same small shooting.
Then Donnie got his(my) Ruger 77MKI .30-'06 on at 200 with Express Core-Lokt 150's and I gave hime some 125gr .30-'06 Managed recoil laods, same POI at 200. Had Elena try that. Smack went the 200yd gong, grin got bigger.
Donnie then put the mossberg 12ga rifled/ported/Dot Scope in her hands with a Lighfield Sabot aboard. Whomp, deadcenter on the 70yd target, this time, she decided one was enough.
BTW, I also sighted in my Ruger 77MKI .280 with handloads (120NosBT, 57.7gr H-4350 - the Dillon measure opened up to absolute max drop) 4" high at 70-75yd. Per Pejsa, stays within 2MOA of Line-of-Sight out to 350yd from 200yd on out, never goes more than 5" high before that. 70yd Pattern of 7 shots about 1"-2" wide, same POI/size as 139gr Hornady Superformance 139gr SST loads, all from a 22" sporter barrel. I am STOKED!
