been looking to build a precision 308 bolt rifle and wondering if this rifle is a good start. will take some time to get the stock and dbm and everything together but with this i could shoot right away. wanting to know if this is a good starting rifle for hunting and bench rifle.

Re: this rifle a good starting point??

You could do worse, but you could also do better.

If you could give us a specificdescription of what you need the rifle to do, we could probably give more insightful and elaborate opinions.

I can say this though: If I knew I wanted a Remington, and I knew I wanted a heavy barrel Remington, I would certainly choose a 5R variant, unless money was a very serious concern.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you are and a lot of people have been suggesting the Remington 700 Police. From what I hear it is a shooter straight out of the box.

Just do a simple search on here. There are probably 5000 threads asking the same question you just did, and talking about all the upgrades and shit that you can put on a Remmy 700 to take it to the next level. There are also vendors on here that offer simple package upgrades to your SPS to take it to the next accuracy level (as long as you do your part)

Re: this rifle a good starting point??

There is a lot of information on here. It's one of many starting points. Take a look at how you want to build your rifle. Figure out your budget. The SPS stocks aren't very good, they flex and it touches the barrel. Someone just asked this question like yesterday or something. Good place to look at is LonewolfUSMC's write up on budget precision rifle.

You could do this with a SPS tactical also but think about what length of barrel you want, you could always consider the sps varmint for a 26inch barrel and can cut it down if you want. Then there is always getting a 700p, it has a decent stock already. Also check the for sale section there are great deals on rifles. Basically what I'm saying is take some time and look around and figure out what you really like.
