People that say the chemically dependent should just man up have no idea what they are talking about. There are chemical and physiological changes that take place in the brain leading to unhealthy behaviors. Would someone say, "you have lung cancer, man up and get over it." Granted, only this gentleman the OP is referring to can get himself on the road to recovery but the choices he made most certainly stem from very serious perceived stressors that may not even be his fault. When I got back from Afghanistan as a medic, I made all sorts of excuses for my drinking. The path to recovery led me to pursue a career in psychology which really opened my eyes to even the most "manly" and hard core individuals suffering greatly. My question is, how manly or tough does a person have to be to "get over it?" Is CAG tough enough or JSOC guys? How about CIA clandestine services? One cannot argue those men are amongst the most physically and mentally tough people on the planet yet still cannot just, "Man the F*#k up." Several of my clients are veterans that reached the top rungs of specialized service yet have some of the very same symptoms the OP described. Now take a person who is less mentally fit that experiences some sort of trauma. They certainly do not have the capacity to "man the f%$k up." A lack of compassion for those that suffer does not make one morally superior rather, the opposite. Part of a healthy existence is an understanding of the plight of others. A lack of empathy indicates emotional maladjustment, immaturity, and a distorted decision process pointing to psychological processes not all that different than this gentleman the OP described. Those that frequent this site are particularly vexed by the story due to a pride in their chosen hobby. I am willing to bet my client that told stories of being a Wall Street investor that predicted the crash and is now retired on a 747 does not bother anyone here. The fact that this other gentleman crossed our path is why we care so much and feel a need to defend the discipline against frauds.

So who is responsible for the glory this dirtbag stole by pretending to be an American fighting man while living his life in a disgraceful fashion? How many listened to this drunken asshole and said to them selves "if vets are like this I am not sure we need to hire any at my company?" But, you wanna just lay it all off on "his daddy spanked him." or some other psycho babble. Hey man, I wear truspec multicam BDU pants every day! :) They are the most comfortable, durable, and cool (temperature) pants I've found. ... and I can work on guns, crawl around in the dirt, and whatever else and they don't show stains!

I did serve though... so I guess I earned them in my own special little way. ;)

One of the first things I did when I retired was to give away 19 sets of cammies to various neighbors as I will never wear them again. Still have my old woodland pattern NBC jacket and an old Army field jacket from 1969 that I keep as a rain coat and seeing as I live in SOCAL, I don't dig it out much. All of the ones I question are the guys that go overboard to tell stories and every piece of clothing has some type of military reference on it. I would argue that many people may have found this guy out over the years but its easier to just agree with what they are saying and walk away but when it comes to making money off their BS, thats another issue.

Life's to short to live it as someone else--this is just sad, angering, bullshit all in one. Like the post on the first page about the saying whether you're a sniper, plumber or ditch digger, just be the best at it you can. Hell, good plumbers make more than most.

Figure many folks in here are like me, non-military, non-law enforcement, just average joe citizen. My career relates to law but not like some folks in here that shoot and maybe get shot at for a living. If folks aren't satisfied with what they do for a living, or their life, change it. Love my life, work hard, play hard. Love guns, shooting and hunting/fishing. Doesn't bring fame, but sure brings a hellova lot of happiness.

Over the last few months, we at PRE have been dealing with the personal struggles of Pete Petersen (aka Shaggy). Wil and I have spent that time trying to help someone we thought we knew well through what appeared to be a severe struggle with PTSD and alcoholism. In the course of helping this person get back on his feet, we discovered that he's been lying to all of us, about everything.

As far as we've been able to confirm in the last two weeks (and now by his own admission), Pete's "career" since at least 2005 is entirely fiction. To most of us, Pete's portrayed himself as a SWAT Sniper for various Police Departments & Sheriffs Departments in Texas and recently as a member of the Louisiana State Attorney General's office investigating child pornography and other sex crimes. To others, we're now learning he's claimed to have been an Army Ranger Sniper, or a Scout Sniper with 3/2 Marines. He's also claimed to have worked for Blackwater as a DDM/Sniper at some point between 2004-2007.

To put it bluntly, none of that is true. We have now been able to confirm, and he has admitted (in recorded phone call) to the following: He has never been on any SWAT team, he has never served a day in any military service. He has never worked for Blackwater in any capacity. He has never worked for the state of Louisiana in any capacity. He worked as a part time dispatcher for UT Arlington's PD for a period of 5 months before a very short stint as a police officer in the DFW area. Since 2005, Pete's worked for Dell computers as a sales associate until recently, when he moved to New Orleans where he currently works as an IT associate for PoolCorp, a national swimming pool supply company, located in Covington, LA.

To be clear, Pete has never been in control of the financial/business side of PRE, and he has not had an active role beyond contributing a few facebook posts since February of this year. Wil and I are both committed to the success of PRE and will continue putting every bit of energy into it's continued success.

Pete has lied to all of us, and to a large part of the firearms industry. Wil and I are incredibly angry and are actively pursuing every legal avenue available to ensure he does not do this again. We're posting this publicly, and tagging each of you so that we can ensure you're fully aware of what's transpired in the last few weeks and to ensure Pete is never able to step foot in the firearms industry again.

That's why I made the comments like I did when I first came to the message board. I expect theirs a lot more posers here as well. Oh, about my posting a few days ago about my land. We put up all the money and got from800-1200yds to shoot. Any locals let me know if you would like to shoot some or practice for match. A lot of elevated,angled shots. Sorry for my above post getting placed within original posting ,its the first paragraph.
