Sunday matinee with Celia and the Grandkiddos.

Overall, I give it a plus. I had some trouble understanding who the minor characters were. I also felt like I was left hanging by the 'ending' which is fairly obviously a lead-in to a sequel.

Taking on the entire Norse Mythology must be a daunting task, and while my understanding was limited, the portrayals and imagery were very good. As a first generation American with Swedish last name, I was made acquainted with the Mythology, and this flick brought back some childhood memories in a most pleasant manner.

For a comic book hero movie, I think it's rather well done.

Having read the comics. It was a very very good translation to the big screen. In most circles Thor is a B level Marvel Hero, and I thought they did a create job giving him his own movie.

Yeah something like that, at the end of "The Hulk" Tony Stark appears and talks to the general. I also heard there was a preview for Captain America, so yeah justice league sounds right, i'm not sure if they'll call it that. Regardless it would be hard to work in that many "main" characters for some reasons.

Sigh...I worked on much of the swirling cloud and shockwave effects for the "Thor arrives on Earth" and the Destroyer fight sequences, and boy were they a huge pain! I'm glad the film is generally being well received, but based on the plates I was looking at last year I never would have thought it would turn out all that good. It just looked so damned silly...but I stand corrected :p

I was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable the movie was. I would not recommend seeing it in 3D though as it did not seem to really look cohesive to me; yet I generally detest 3D so take it with a grain of salt.

Re: 'Thor' tops W/E charts

Thor was OK. I saw it in 3D and you can see it in 3D or not, it won't make any difference in the overall movie. Thor and Portman did a good job. But really, it was an entertaining movie that is forgettable about 15 minutes away from the theater. The ending of the movie did wrap up the movie (your previous 2 hours), but left no indication on what would be the next Thor movie nor did it address any Avenger movie (other than on Stark reference).

Now, "Priest" in IMAX this weekend.

It was a good movie. I just got tired of hearing my wife talk about how "cut" Thor was in the movie.

The 3D was a post conversion process, so it wasn't going to be as clean and accurate as "Avatar." The next Scorsese film, "The Invention of Hugo Caberet" will likely be the next film to do 3D "correctly" until "The Hobbit" blows the doors off of previous attempts with 48fps 3D.

Re: 'Thor' tops W/E charts

I hesitated because of Portman. I find her cold as ice and always appearing about 14 years old.

But, I will say it was worth it just to see the CG work. Astonishing and beautiful. I grew up on Norse mythology and it was allot of fun to see the amount of work poured into Asgard. These are rich stories intermingled with pop culture, but still, we take Thor as we can get him!

Someone could a fine film and never have to mention a comix book once.

" Thor flashed fiery glances at the Serpent, and the Serpent in turn stared up toward him from below and blew venom. Then, it is said, the giant Hymir grew pale, became yellow, and was sore afraid, when he saw the Serpent, and how the sea rushed out and in through the boat. In the very moment when Thor clutched his hammer and raised it on high, then the giant fumbled for his fish-knife and hacked off Thor's line at the gunwale, and the Serpent sank down into the sea. Thor hurled his hammer after it; and men say that he struck off its head against the bottom; but I think it were true to tell thee that the Midgard Serpent yet lives and lies in the encompassing sea. But 'Thor swung his fist and brought it against Hymir's ear, so that he plunged overboard, and Thor saw the soles of his feet. And Thor waded to land."

Go and see it on the big screen.

Re: 'Thor' tops W/E charts

Saw it with some female friends of mine on opening night. I think the theatre had to scotch-bright the seats afterwards. The girls kept going on about how hot Thor was...
At least we had Portman!

Re: 'Thor' tops W/E charts

I missed it at the movies.. I hate 3 D movies, and the 2D schedule never fit mine (they played it less often). Looking forward to renting it...
