Was looking into a 762x39 upper, was thinking of doing one that is a little more punch than 5.56 with redily available ammo. maybe a 300m and closer gun , 14-16" barrel. Not falimiar witht te 7.62 besids playing with an ak. never had one on an ar platform

How is the accuracy? and to 300m?

Thanks for the input

Re: Thoughts on 7.62x39 upper

I've shot my 16" upper out to 400 yards and maintained MOA accuracy with Yugo brass cased ammo.

Do some searches and you'll find a few foibles of the 762x39 AR:

- steel case ammo typically has the primers seated too deep to be reliably set off. Firing pin protrusion needs to be increased for it to do so.

- Yugo brass case ammo does not have this issue.

- FTFs are somewhat common half way through a magazine. I'm trying to work this out on mine. Right now with a carbine buffer and spring this may be contributing; I'll try a full length A2 lower next time out with it. There may be other workarounds on the net, like cutting a coil off the mag spring or something. Gas does not seem to be the issue, rather not enough inertia to strip the round along with the upward pressure of the round on the feed lips once the rounds "turn the corner" on the mag.

The 762x39 hits hard and does a great job of delivering its energy on target. The combination of the lower velocity with the larger bullet diameter helps give the round punch.

Getting an AR running well with the round lets you have the best of both worlds - the 762x39 punch with AR accuracy, ergos, and modularity.

Re: Thoughts on 7.62x39 upper

DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The rifle isnt the issue magazines ARE!

I cant stress this enough its a no win situation.

Just finished building a rifle for a buddy. Rainer arms matched upper and lower, Magpul furniture, Rainer BCG withe the 150 dollar MGI 7.62x39 bolt, Yankee Hill CL 16" barrel....you get the idea its wasnt a cheap build.

F**king C-Products is now defunct no bueno folded kaputz. Suposedly the only reliable 7.62x39 mag out there...my ass! They suck big time, they were nice enough to direct me to the company that picked up where they left off (ASC) and we bought some of their mags as well...worse than the c-products mags.

So yeah its a great idea if you want a manualy opperated hand fed AR.

FWIW we tried 2-high caps, 1-5 and 1-10 round mags NONE worked. The ACS mags wouldnt fit more than two rounds in the 5 round mag and about 7-8 in the 10 round, customer service hasnt serviced shite.

OK done with my rant. Dont do it. Those that have a nice supply of functional mags good on ya let me know if you want to sell any.

PM me about the mags! Everyone I ever had has always fed very well!

Re: Thoughts on 7.62x39 upper

Its an intresting concept to have one in this caliber. AR performance seems to say they get them to to run like clock work. I've only seen and shot one in person that worked most of the time, and I have looked, a lot. It was a Colt 20" H bar with the 2 7.62x39 Colt mags that came with the rifle. Try any other 7.62 mags and it became a POS. Two working mags didnt cut it so I passed.

Cactus I appreciate your concern with the welfare of my rifles. My rifles dust cover only swings one way, with brass out! I am glad your rifles work for you no need to get mad it was just a question. How bout sharing your load data and how you got three of them to work right?

Re: Thoughts on 7.62x39 upper

If you're going to do it, buy a modular lower. That way you can run AK mags, and switch to run AR mags if you go to 556 later on.

That, or run 5.45x39

To answer your second part..... My CZ 527 has always fed very well lol... As for the AR-15mags.... I bought a shit ton of c products mags and they didnt do squat! Model One Sales bought them all back! So I then bought all the colt mags from brownells. They kept me very happy! Then I was at a gun show at market hall and talked to a guy and he said his c products worked very well... I was like hmmmmmmmmmm. Bullshit!!!! He was a dealer I gave him my info and after awhile he said "I'll send you a box of mags "C-Products" To try... He said C-Products and A huge run of mags that wouldnt feed a single round! So they fixed the problem???? He said his would work. A few weeks later I had to sign for a package opened it up and new mags for me to try. I BEAT STOMPED CHEWED KICKED SHOT THE HELL OUT OF EVERY MAG.... Fed like a champ! So I bought every mag he had! I can get you in touch with him if you would like good mags for 7.62x39

Re: Thoughts on 7.62x39 upper

I was kind of trying to follow Anchor Zero Sixs build he mentioned in another post. I think he has good taste in components and I was hoping his build for his friend would work out. If he gets his to start working ill get busy hording parts.

Are these mags in current production or are they good mags out of production with limited availibility? If you want PM me the contact.

Re: Thoughts on 7.62x39 upper

Just an option, but PWS sells complete rifles and uppers in 7,62x39. I'm currently running a PWS 556 upper. Took about 200rds to break in but is running great. Just ordered the complete MK2 (308). AR style with AK piston. Again, just a suggestion. Good Luck!
