Why not go 7WSM and save powder, barrel life and MONEY! 7WSM can get the heavies up to 3050FPS, what more could you want?

If you want a hunting rifle that will reach wayyyy out there its hard to beat. That pretty much goes for all the RUMS in my experience. Hard to beat a 180 berger at 3100-3200 FPS.

Both the 7RM and 7wsm come very close in performance without buring 90grains of powder and half the barrel every shot. If you can't kill it with either of those the 7mm isn't the right gun for the shot.

Unless you shoot it as a target gun, the barrel should last a good long while as a hunting rifle. It be interesting to see you burn one out fast though. Document and take pics!

If you are going that route, then Rem doesnt make one in 7WSM, but they do in 300WSM, which is just a new barrel away from being a 7WSM.

thats what a freind of mine did, he shot in the 3200-3250 range with 180's as a 7RUM, now shoots a little over 3000 with WAY less powder as a 7WSM.
If you need the action anyway go for it, it'll make you love your 7WSM that much more...

If you burn it out might as well go with a long action 7mm of some flavor. I have nothing against the 7wsm (well, the brass sucks lol) but for a long action 7mm I think I would choose something else.

I am after the long action to build another .338 Edge for my son once the barrel on the 7mm RUM is torched. Otherwise the .300WSM would be ideal.

If not the WSM, what 7mm would you choose in a long action?

If you could use standard bolt face, then why not go with a 280? I don't see many people on here talking about them on here, but it seems like it would be a great long range cartridge, just a thought.
