Thoughts on ROKSTOK?

Couldn’t get info from the Rokslide forum? 😂

Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. That forum is so one dimensional opinion wise. Make sure you top it with a NF!

I have not fired the rokstock but I have handled one and I have designed stocks for mass production and I carve some from wood (mostly for my personal use). These are my opinions and stocks are a personal preference.

Rokstok Pros

-Light weight for what it offers in terms of recoil management.

-High butt (they claim 1/2” above bore centerline) this will result in less muzzle rise under recoil and better shootability (assuming your shoulder actually contacts the butt pad up high). You can accomplish the same thing with a height adjustable butt, but that adds weight!

-Flat toe. This can be good if you’re using a rear rest and you favor accuracy over speed of adjustment.

Rokstock Cons
-Grip was poor in my opinion

-ugly, I have a feeling they’ll saturate the market that can live with the looks and have to come out with a version that doesn’t look so bad. Form follows function but they could have done better.

-no adjustability (that’s why it’s light).

-I’m not a fan of the cheek design but I think it’s sloped so you can flex your cleaning rod on it. It would also allow you to mount a scope low over bore height and still see through it. If you did mount your scope this low it’s likely your shoulder wouldn’t contact the butt as high mitigating some of the design advantages. If you mounted the scope high you’d likely not have a great cheek weld without building something up (adding weight).

Overall I like that they made this stock and are are doing something a bit different. There are other directions I think the industry could/should go for hunting stocks but keeping the butt high is one that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Just got one in yesterday for a 6CM hunting build. Just handling it already has me wondering about ordering a couple more for a couple of rifles that sit in Manner's PH's. They don't feel quite as high of quality as the Manners, and they are going to be very hard if not impossible to balance perfectly, but I like the butt/cheek more than I thought I would. I also tend to like the grip better so far, but that is obviously personal preference.

I have one ordered for a 6CM as well. I drank the rokslide koolaid but liked what I saw. Posted this question just to see if anyone on SH has any experience with one and if I made a good choice or not. Let me know how it feels when shooting!

The advantages this stock would offer over most will be most appreciated in heavy recoiling, light weight hunting rifles… 6cm is pretty forgiving but I would expect the difference to still be noticeable. I also would be curious to hear opinions that don’t come from Rokslide.
