I have a Glock 22 RTF2 and have been happy with it. I handled a Sig 226 Elite and really liked it. I was thinking of trading in the Glock on the sig. Is the 226 elite worth the extra coin or should I throw some night sites on the glock and be happy.

The Glock has a lone wolf conversion to 9mm. I am going to order a 9mm Ospry So there would be the added cost of buying a threaded barrel for the sig.

I am pretty ignorant about pistols in general and like I said I have no reason to dislike my Glock but than Again I don't know what I don't know to form an educated opinion.

I have owned a Glock 19 and currently own a Glock 26 (Second Generation). There is nothing wrong with the Glock and I don't see any advantage to the Sig Sauer when it comes to reliability or accuracy. I'm sure many people will say one is more accurate than the other, but I feel these are self defense guns, not target pistols and they are both plenty accurate for that use. I also have a Sig 226 Black Water Elite and it is a much nicer looking pistol than my Glock (my personal opinion) and I prefer to shoot it over my Glock as I feel the trigger is nicer, but I would not say it is a much better working pistol. Note that you can buy a Sig 226 elite with the threaded barrel already installed (Elite Dark and Scorpion TB).

At the end of the day I suggest you pick up both in your hand and feel which one is more natural and comfortable for you. I would also dry fire both so you know which trigger you prefer. These two aspects of a pistol can make a huge difference in your ability to be accurate and consistent. Personally, the looks and feel of the Sig are worth the extra coin for me, thus the reason why I bought it, but you just have to decide which one puts the bigger grin on your face.

I do not have any experience with reliability of either of these pistols when using a suppressor, so you should consider this aspect as well.

On the other hand, the pistols I shoot the most are my custom 1911s, in which case there is no comparison between them and the Sig or Glock.

Both are great guns. I love how light and compact a Glock feels in my hand but I also love how heavy and sturdy a Sig Feels in my hand. Exactly like wearing a really nice watch that has substantial weight to it.

You'll be in for a big change.
The SIG 226 is often heralded for its superb ergonomics. Yes, it feels really nice in your hand.
And it is a high quality gun.
But the big difference is....
The first shot is double action, follow up shots are single action. And then you have to de-cock, to holster, since there is no safety.
The first shot is what counts, and will be the most difficult to place accurately, because of the double action trigger pull (long and heavy).

Accuracy and speed of that first shot, may be significantly less with the SIG than with the Glock. The Glock always has the same trigger pull,
which is a major advantage in the accuracy department (muscle memory and all that).

Operating the de-cock lever on the SIG is something you will have to get used to (muscle memory, again).

I would stick with the Glock.

I prefer not to mix hand guns with different operating systems.
For example: swiping a de-cock lever vs. swiping the safety on a 1911 is similar muscle memory with
the same thumb and a recipe for disaster.

Try before you buy and see how you like those one shot drills drawing from the holster.

When you are doing a draw and shoot drill with the sig you can thumb back the hammer with your other thumb with no lost time and have the same trigger feel. this is how I do mine unless I purposly want to shoot the first shot double action.

It seems like the Glock is a serviceable pistol. I don't know anyone with a Sig so I don't know when I would get a chance to work with one. Buks had a good point about mixing manual of arms between weapons. For 1200 I could get another Glock and be halfway towards an Osprey.

I really like the RTF2, the Previous owner put in a Ghost trigger and Ti. Pin Kit. Looking into getting some night sights for it. I really don't know what more I would need to do to the thing. Like I said I am not well versed in pistols so I don't know really what I do or don't need other than the obvious which is a gun that goes bang when you pull the trigger and I can hit an 8 inch target at 25 feet with. My G22 does both of those. The Sigs Look really nice and people seem to love them so I was just wondering if I was really missing anything with my Glock. It seems I'm not. My only Previous pistols experience was a Taurus 1911, My SA XD I bought new in 2007 (Both traded away) and my M9 I had issued when I was in the Corps.

I concur. Get some good sights, go shoot and practice.

For $1200 you can get an Hk, I had at some point or another the entire Glock line up, Sig P226/P229/P239/P938, Hk P30L/P30/45c/45. I would go Hk, that would be my preference. Not sure about the quality of the new Sigs but it seems that QC is not what it used to be. I personally never had any problems with mine, except my P229/p938 with occasional jams. Glock and Hk would eat anything.

All things being equal, I have found the customer service is great with sig, not sure about glock. I will tell you from experience that HK customer service sucks donkey balls. I will never own another HK pistol. You owe it to yourself to go to a range that rents pistols, and shoot a Sig. Double action isn't for everyone, but neither is a striker fired one. I much prefer my M&P to a glock. More natural grip angle for me. I look at firearms as tools, there is a tool for every job, and I want a lot of tools! I much prefer my Grey Guns tweeked Blackwater 226 over any other pistol I own. The double action first shot is a dream. At the end of the day, buy what you want, take a training class with it, and shoot the shit out of what you have. J

I don't know much about Glock's customer service since its so rare to hear about people sending them in, especially compared to HK's. Our shop had to send back one particular USP.45 five times to HK, the customer had to wait about a year just to get a working gun. I love both Sig and Glock. Downsides; I'm not a big fan of Glock's triggers, especially after 100 rounds. And I'm not too much a fan of the price of a new sig

It is in my personal opinion that you can't go wrong with either you one truthfully, but if it were up to me I'd be a shooting the Sig 226. If you haven't shot, well you need as they are smooth. My 229 I owned was great, accurate, comfortable to shoot, and easy to carry. The Glock 17 I owned was just every bit as accurate as my Sig, but preferred the Sig over the two. If it's up to me the Sig is the way to go! I love their triggers.

if you want to train like 40xs mentioned, i would not go with the elite due to the beavertail. i find it gets in the way. look into the the extreme, it still has the rail, SRT, short reach, and the front cock serrations.

i used my 226 in a self defense class, and i was WAAAY left and low for the DA trigger pull. but and hour later with the instructor, i could see the improvement on the DA/SA. and that was only an hour with 50 rounds.

also, sigs tend to multiply like rabbits. i started with one last christmas, and now have 6, and am continually looking. i always wanted one, but was not willing to pay the price. my wife surprised me at christmas with a 226 scorpion 9mm threaded barrel. first it is the 226, then a 229, then a 228, then a 938. not only is it enough to have the modern renditions, you find yourself going after the west german 226, 228, 225 (got one). and don't forget about adding a sig 1911.....

as far as the QC goes, i have noticed it has more to do with the new models they are making. when i read issues with a newly manufactured sig, i do not recall very many p-series pistols (226/220/228-9. the 227 is too new). they have been making them for the last 25ish years.

a good friend of mine is a glock 45 fanboy. he did 4 years active duty infantry, made it to sergeant, and 2 years in the reserves when he got home (if this means anything to you). he tore me a new asshole when i bought my first 226. "i can have 2 glock 45s for the price of one sig, my glock is a tool and i can treat it like one, if it breaks and it will not, i can just go buy another for $450 (?). your sig, that's over $1000 blah blah blah."

he has held my sigs, and did the dry fire/rack the slide/target acquisition, etc routine, and just told me i was dumb. when we were finally able to get together and go shoot, i forced him to try my 226 9mm. he F-ing loved it and cursed me for having them because he wants one now.

i am not a glock hater, it might come across that way.

shoot/like what you want; M&P, glock, XD-XDm, 1911, 45, 9mm, .380, revolver, striker vs hammer; and fuck 'em if they don't like it. it does not affect my life one bit.

The 226 is now available in an SAO version. I had previously not been a fan of sigs (or any other da/sa gun for that matter) solely due to the trigger configuration. Since I learned about the 226 Elite SAO a couple weeks ago I have been considering picking one up. Personally I'm a 1911 fan, but I own a glock 19 as well and it does it's job. I had been planning on picking up an XDM in 9mm but now it's between that and the full sized single action Sig in 9mm.

To the OP - nothing wrong with glocks and if you shoot them well I don't see any reason to switch (other than my favorite reason - "I want it"). That being said, glocks don't quite do it for me and if you are like me and prefer single action triggers you may want to check this model out. Notice the 1911 style thumb safety:

I find this true with most well designed highly functional things. I probably have 30 Kershaw knifes/Fenix flashlights. My wife joked I have a knife and flashlight fetish. Of course if I could afford it I'd probably have about 30 different pistols and even more AR.

I have owned both Sig and Glock pistols. I bought a Glock 30 a while back and have shot quite a few of my buddy's Glocks. I am not a Glock hater, but I just can't get behind they Glock hype. I sold my Glock 30 because I could not stand it. I am not a fan of the Glock ergonomics, triggers, the cheap airsoft gun-ish feel, ect. That is why I will never buy another Glock.

Conversely, I absolutely love Sig pistols. They are my absolute favorite from all I've shot. I own a P229 in .40 S&W, and I purchased a P226 Elite Scorpion 9mm back in January of this year. As a matter of fact, I have a P227 Tac model (not on the website yet) on order as well. My P226 is now my favorite pistol to shoot. The Sig SRT is an outstanding factory trigger, in my opinion. The grip angle, the ergonomics, and the addition of the extended beaver tail on the elite frame make for a pistol that is an absolute pleasure to shoot. It is a very accurate pistol as well (or maybe I shoot it well?). At any rate, I do not believe you will be disappointed by purchasing one. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. The pistol oozes quality and actually feels like a real gun, unlike the Glock.

Thanks for all the input guys. Probably I will just keep the glock and get a 229. I am thinking an SAO model in 9mm with threaded barrel. I want the SRT trigger and night sights. Though I will likely trade out the sights for some HS sights.

I had a Sig @P229 E2 in 40cal, loved the way it handled and shot....but my wife didnt like the weight...so traded it up to a Glock 19 Gen 4

I've had well over 100 handguns and my SS 226 elite in 40sw is at the top of my list. If your looking for a gun to carry buy a glock.... I carry a G19 and take my sig to the range.
