My Bn just got 5 in from some MEU or MEB...not sure.
My Co. is getting atleast 2, and hopefully I can get my grubby mits on one as a T.O. weapon.

Impressions/thoughts on the SAM-R as a gardian angel/overwatch weapon over M16A4 or M4 with RCO?

Needless to say, I'll have a much finer ranging capability, but other than that....Arent they built by the Precision Weapons Lab in Va?

Re: Thoughts on the SAM-R?

The SAM-Rs were indeed built by the PWS at WTB.

They are/were the best the Shop could build while still using the Marine/Navy approved M16A1 trigger (MARCORSYSCOM may have gotten safety release documentation for a different trigger by now). It rivals the best National Match Course rifle the Marines can build (which until they beat the Army consistently is OK).

It is a fine weapon -- I'd arm-rassle the next guy to get one. Marine Corps demand has been so high that I believe (second-hand and strictly conjecture) PWS did/does not have the manpower or funding to meet Corps demand, and all current production is being handled by Memorandum of Agreement and direct funds transfer to Naval Surface Weapons Center, Crane, Indiana, for 5.56mm Mark 12s (a weapon with standard Navy approvals already and with a Knight trigger).

Eric Reid at PWS might be a good "In" to get better fidelity/clarification with the Master Gunner.
